There have been rumours of a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds sequel for a while now, but concrete information on the project has been pretty scarce so far. For a while many believed Project XTRM was the codename for the sequel, but this later turned out to be PUBG: New State, an upcoming futuristic mobile game that builds on the battle royale experience.
New information revealed to PlayerIGN, however, suggests that PUBG 2 is in the works and will act as a direct sequel to the original game. The battle royale, which is slated for a 2022 release, will be worked on by the original development team - although recruitment to bring in experts from other battle royale games is currently in full swing.
This is important since it'll help keep the gunplay, which helped PUBG set itself aside from its competitors in the early days, authentic, while enticing much of its audience from its 2017/2018 heyday back.
