Hey Survivors!
It's time for another weekend dev update, where I'll give you some behind-the-scenes look on Outbreak! I'll also catch you up on some releases from the last week!
Weekly Community Survival Sessions
We're hosting community playdates EVERY Saturday at 8PM EST! Hop online and watch the stream or jump in multiplayer for a chance to play with the developer! Let's try to use this as a regular time to help the community get together to play some co-op! The stream will be available in the Community Hub under Broadcasts.
Single Player Demo Now Available! (Free)
We've just launched a free single-player demo for Outbreak! You'll have the opportunity to play through the "Tutorial" campaign scenario. Once you're familiar with the game mechanics, you can jump into the first part of the "Captive" Nightmares scenario.
The demo provides a small slice of gameplay and gives you an opportunity to try out all of the different control schemes. You can fully customize your keyboard, mouse & gamepad controls in the demo as well! Check it out and let us know what you think on the message boards!
"Care" - Nightmares scenario released! (Free)
The latest Nightmares scenario, "Care", has been released! You'll take on the role of Ethan as he's busy working on his doctoral thesis (or... maybe playing some video games...). He hears a strange noise down the hallway and goes to investigate. As he attempts to survive this nightmare, he'll have to protect Nora (an unarmed NPC). Good luck surviving the undead threats as the lyceum burns to the ground around you!
Difficulty Balancing Changes
We've recently pushed a new patch to reduce the frequency (and the amount of concurrent) monster spawns across the game. It's a small change in single-player, but you'll see a much larger change in multiplayer games with more players on lower difficulties. We'll continue to tweak game difficulty in the future with the goal of making "Normal" mode tough but fair. "Hard" mode is designed to be extremely hard and a bit unfair. "Biohazard" mode is designed to be completely unfair and brutal.
Upcoming Content - "Clear" Nightmares scenario (Free)
The newest Nightmares scenario is in development, which is entitled "Clear". In Clear, you'll be taking the role of a first responder to the hospital in the wake of an unknown event. Starting with a group of fellow police officers, you'll be investigating the situation and searching for survivors. But, as the story always goes, something goes horribly wrong...
Clear is going to be designed to be a more "action"-based scenario. You're going in fully armed... but how long will this preparation last? "Clear" will be releasing in the next few weeks.
Port to Xbox One and Windows Store Progress
The ports continue to truck along. This week saw additional polish to the Windows Store version of Outbreak as I work towards meeting Xbox Live platform requirements. There is still no ETA for this version, it's likely a few months out.
The Xbox One version hasn't had appreciable progress this week. It'll be on the back burner for the time being until the Windows Store version is complete. Again, there is no ETA for the Xbox One version but we'll keep trying to make it during 2017!
Thank you!
Thank you for continuing to play and support Outbreak! Keep the feedback coming and post your videos, screenshots and artwork to the game hub. If you've purchased Outbreak and enjoyed your experience, a positive Steam Review is greatly appeciated!
