This is the biggest update the demo has received so far.
The game has been completely reworked with a new stylized art direction, a brand new UI, a redesigned warp system, and ship modules that let you customize your ship with randomized loot.
As always, thank you to everyone who played the demo and shared feedback!
A whole new look
The game has been given a complete visual overhaul.
New hand-painted, stylized environments.
Toon lighting across the entire game.
Improved skies with painted nebulae, animated stars, and a living sun.
New volumetric-style clouds that you can fly through.
Improved terrain textures and underground lighting while mining.
Procedural planets now feature continents, atmosphere, and day/night lighting visible from space and on the star map.
Warp overhaul
Warp travel has been completely redesigned.
Instead of a simple transition, locking onto a destination now opens a wormhole that you fly through before emerging at your target. The old warp streak effect has also been replaced with a much smoother visual transition.
Ship modules
Defeated pirates now drop ship modules that can be installed to customize your ship.
Four module types: Engine, Shield, Hull, and Weapon.
Five rarities ranging from Common to Legendary.
Every module rolls unique bonuses and drawbacks.
Install and swap modules from the new Module Bay inside your ship.
Tooltips now display detailed module stats.
Interface overhaul
The entire interface has been rebuilt with new artwork.
Completely redesigned menus, inventory, star map, settings, fabricator, quests, and HUD.
New pickup feed and less intrusive quest notifications.
Item tooltips for ores, tools, and modules.
New crosshair, warp targeting reticle, and planet icons.
Shield and hull indicators now fade away when you're fully repaired.
Movement improvements
Player movement has been updated to feel more responsive.
Tap Space to jump and hold it to use the jetpack.
Jumping now preserves momentum and allows better air control.
Improved movement animations in every direction.
Physical item drops
Items can now exist as physical objects in the world.
Drag items out of your inventory to drop them as loot crates. Ore, tools, and ship modules can all be picked back up later, and pirate module drops use the same system.
Fixes and improvements
Fixed terrain seam flickering while flying.
Improved mining laser impact effects.
Better aiming while rolling in third-person flight.
Improved engine visual effects.
Picked-up tools now immediately return to your toolbelt.
Various UI, audio, camera, and gameplay fixes.
This update drastically changed how the game looks, so I decided to update the Steam Page of No Man's Mines with the new visuals.
