Currency System Updates
One of the tasks on the short-term roadmap is to make the in game currency (previously called 'Motes') more approachable and more useful. This update is the first attempt at working toward that goal.
Currency Renaming
After quite a bit of deliberation, we've come to the conclusion that "Mote" is a bit too archaic a term for a major part of the game, so a renaming of the currency was in order. This patch renames the currency to "Relic Fragments" as it is both symbolic of a magical object that may have numerous uses, as well as the understanding that they may be useful in number, but not individually.
We wanted to avoid a truly generic currency (gems, gold, crystals, etc) and I think that "Relic Fragments" is unique enough to be interesting while understandable enough to avoid confusion.
Item Upgrade System
Previous to this patch, item re-rolling was based on simply wanting to get the highest value on its ability value range. While it worked, it wasn't particularly exciting or rewarding. Therefore a new Item Upgrade system, based on Diablo's 'Ancient Legendary' system has been implemented.
All items now have a 10% chance to roll "Hallowed" when they are earned or re-rolled. Hallowed items have a higher value range than normal items with a small overlap (so that the bottom of the Hallowed range is near the top of the Normal range). Re-rolling a hallowed item does not guarantee that the resulting item will still be hallowed.
Additionally, items have a 0.5% chance to roll "Primordial", which is a 'perfect' item. Primordial items do not have an ability range, and instead have a single value, higher than the maximum value in the hallowed range.
For some items, the primordial value is significantly higher than the maximum hallowed range, and can change how the game is played with the right item.
For instance, a Primordial Arcane Vest has the duration of the teleporter last longer than the cooldown, so you can hop from spot to spot around the map.
We hope to do much more with the currency system in the future as well as improve the item system. This is our first step in that direction and you can expect to see more RPG system improvements coming down the line soon :)
