New effects and settings for today's update
Super Sampling Slider
The video settings panel gets its first option today with a super sampling slider (thanks to Pool Nation for the great idea!). The range goes from 0.8 to 2.0 with a default of 1. Updates are realtime once you release the slider, no need to reload the game and it should be immediately evident.
Please keep in mind that super sampling is incredibly resource intensive. Even the new Titan X probably can't do much more than 2.0 without Reprojection kicking in, so don't feel bad if you can't boost it up too much with a new graphics card.
Fog
The current scene felt a bit too "happy" with the ghouls and monster's that are coming at you, so this update tests out a new fog effect.
There are two effects in the game, one on the loading scene, and one in the game. I'd like feedback about which one you guys like the best.
Loading Scene: Screen Space Fog - This is a fullscreen camera effect that takes the entire image and passes it through a 'fog filter' using the distance information to decide how much 'fog' (sky color) to apply.
Game Scene: Particle Fog - This effect uses a particle system (really large faint blue/gray circles) to cover a certain area with fog. At the moment it's above the canyon and where enemies spawn.
Both of these effects have different advantages and disadvantages, the screenspace fog can't be easily animated, but the particle fog requires 'soft particles' which are expensive (not that the screen space is cheap). So getting player feedback about which fog feels the best would be helpful!
