This week has been spent almost entirely on a single new feature, and I think everyone will agree with the value of doing so! So, without further ado... here is the first part of...
Player Customization
This week laid the groundwork for the full item system for the game. In many recent VR games, 'Player Customization' tends to mean outfits that everyone has access to allowing you to change your appearance. This is not the case for QuiVr... Items in QuiVr are designed to be much more like traditional RPGs, in that players have an inventory of items, of which a number can be equipped at a time.
Currently the items in the game are just visual differences, however they also have a slot for "abilities" which will be explained in more detail once armor begins to get them.
The other big difference here is that everyone doesn't have access to the same items. During this first round of testing, there is no interface to select items (although you can view your current outfit on the mannequin in the tall tower). Instead each time you open the game you will be given a new item (up to a maximum of 5 for the time being) that will be added to your inventory.
To equip items for this initial implementation, you press the touchpad on your left controller, which will equip a random set of items from your inventory. This is just to make sure the system works for the time being (over multiplayer especially) and is not representative of the final system for equipping and changing items from your inventory.
Your current 'outfit' will also be saved between sessions, so if you find a combination that you like it will be saved to your account automatically.
The current available items to receive are:
- 4 different arrow colors (Cobalt, Ruby, Emerald, and Gold)
- 5 different armor colors (both base and trim colors)
- 5 different helmets with 3 different base model variations
These items are subject to change without update to the Steam version of the game, as the item list is hosted on an external server from which the game pulls information.
Please let me know if anything is working incorrectly (invisible players, askew armor, etc) particularly in a multiplayer environment.
Other Changes/Fixes
- Allowed access to the top tower inside village
- Added back 1 additional teleportation slot at the scaffolding near gate
- Fixed settings issue treating all sessions like the first
Thanks as always for the continued feedback and support!
