2017 was a fantastic year for us, but it was also just the beginning. Over the course of the remainder of this week, we’ll be sharing some early first looks at some of the new systems and features we have already well into development for a 2018 release. Today’s feature is one we’ve heard numerous requests for since the launch of the game: Farming is coming to Citadel! (This system is still in development. Presentation and functionality may change.)
Seeds
All big things must start as something small which, in this case, means seeds. To start farming you’ll have to first collect the seeds of the plant you wish to grow by gathering the fully grown plants from around the world. Once you have a selection of the plants you wish to grow, throw them into the Deconstructor to harvest their seeds. The plants will be lost, but the yield of the seeds they drop will more than make up for it once they’re fully grown.
Farming Plots
Now that you have your seeds it’s time to build your garden! You’ll first need to unlock the Farming Plot structure piece from the Knowledge Tree (KP cost and level requirement still to be decided). Once you’ve built your plots you can place your seeds in them to begin the process of growing your crops. Crops must be watered, which will require the consumption of mana.
Sprinklers
Alternative to hand watering your plants, you can also construct Sprinklers. Like Farming Plots, the Sprinkler recipe can be found in the Knowledge Tree (KP cost and level requirement still to be decided). To take the labor out of farming, simply build these structures and they will continuously shower your crops with water so long as they’re hooked up to Mana Generators. You can even produce Fertilizer (called Hobart’s Growth Solution) to expedite the growth process. Like water, this can be dispersed either by hand or through Sprinklers. Just set it and forget it!
As you can imagine, plants will be used in some interesting new ways after the Farming System is added to the game. We’ll have more to say about these systems soon, so stay tuned for more details in the future!
