Howdy everyone!
The first Steam demo for King in the Mountain is now LIVE!
It’s time to head back into the mountain. Plan your dwarves’ mining expeditions, manage your resources, and rebuild the Mountain Hall - one haul at a time.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined our August public playtest and shared their feedback. Your suggestions helped shape this demo, and I'm excited for you to try the changes!

Your Kingdom Starts with the Next Expedition
In King in the Mountain, you’re an exiled king rebuilding a lost kingdom. Beneath a forgotten mountain lie gold, gems, and ancient artifacts and your dwarves are ready to dig.
Choose where they should excavate and plan efficient routes toward valuable resources. Head straight for a nearby deposit or spend precious time digging toward something deeper. Every expedition lasts only as long as your torch keeps burning. When the light goes out, it’s time to return home.
Back at the Mountain Hall, put your resources to work. Build and arrange rooms, connect them with tunnels, establish workshops, and manage production. Recruit more dwarves, improve their tools, and extend your torchlight to reach places you couldn’t before.
What’s New Since the Public Playtest?
The demo includes several changes based on your feedback:
More guidance: A new in-game guide book and recipe descriptions directly inside the upgrade tree make it easier to understand your options.
Easier building management: Zoom out further and use a building-focused view that hides dwarves so you can check what your workshops are doing.
Smoother Tunnel Mode: Clicking a building now opens its interface and automatically exits Tunnel Mode.
Better production defaults: Newly unlocked recipes now stop once your base has 10 of that item, rather than producing continuously.
Blueprints to discover: Certain upgrades that unlock buildings or recipes now require blueprints found in the mines.
Expanded forest expeditions: Craft forest tools to send more dwarves on expeditions, and track how many times you’ve completed each forest map.
And much much more new content
