2,000 wishlists. Thank you.
The Money Man just passed 2,000 wishlists. For a two-person team with a demo that's been out since August, that number means a lot. Every one of those came from someone who played the demo, watched a stream, or read something and decided the game was worth keeping an eye on. Thank you.
Good timing, too, because we're part of Serbian Games Week on Steam, running September 21-28, ahead of DevGAMM x FTW! Belgrade on the 29th and 30th. If you're browsing the event page and this is your first time seeing the game, here's the short version: you count, check and clear cash for a Brooklyn mob operation in a noir future. Every bill that crosses your desk could be clean, counterfeit or a test. Papers, Please style work, with branching choices that decide who trusts you and who stops trusting you.
Play the demo
The demo is free and live on the store page right now. It's about an hour long and covers the opening of the story. If you play it and like where it's going, a wishlist helps us more than anything else at this stage.
Demo update landing during the event
Thanks to everyone who played the demo and sent feedback. The most common note was that it throws new mechanics at you too fast. Fair. The update that goes live during Serbian Games Week pulls the seal and thread checks out of the opening and reworks the tutorial so nothing gets skipped or lost early on.
It also adds two new ways to play:
Endless mode. Ten nights generated from a single seed, one ledger across the run, and you can share a seed with a friend to play the same shifts.
Live mode. If you stream on Twitch or YouTube, your chat can play the Family and weigh in on your calls.
And the full game
The full game runs 31 days, and we're spreading the checks and tools across that whole stretch so each one gets room to settle before the next shows up. There are nine endings, and most of the work right now is on the people you deal with day to day and how your choices land with them. Alongside the main story there are one-off days that break the routine, like a party at the bar and a single-night mystery you have to solve before morning. We're going deeper into the lore of this version of Brooklyn, and partway through the story Mars residents start visiting Earth with their own currency, with its own checks and quirks to learn.
The story will also hand you desk upgrades that change how you work: a bill tracker, tabs for the reference book, a UV plate, a faster scanner, a radio and TV for the desk, and a deeper scan on the Slate (the iPad on your desk) that reads a bill up close and gives you a verdict.
We're aiming to show more of this at Steam Next Fest in February.
We're a two-person team in Toronto and we read every comment and review, so if you have thoughts on the demo, the discussion board is open.
Thanks for checking us out during the event.
