Hello Northgardians!
A new MAJOR update has been pushed to Northgard and we are incredibly proud to present to you The Clan of the Bear!
The Clan of the Bear:
Stalwart protector of the land, the clan of Bjarki is home to the most resilient warriors. Hailing from the northern reaches of the realm, they are also very well suited to survive the harsh winters of Northgard.
Starting Bonuses:
- Food production loss during winter is reduced by 20%
- Instead of having reduced power, your military units gain 10% resistance bonus during winter.
Exclusive units:
Playing with the Clan of the Bear will allow you to have access to two new and unique units:
The Armored Bear is a powerful defensive unit that cannot enter enemy territory. However, its summoning cost being quite low (50 food), and its armor level quite high, it is the perfect unit to clear the territories surrounding your landing area early in the game.
The Shield Maiden replaces the Warchief of the other clans. She is a stalwart defender of her people and the reason the Clan of the Bear will never falter! In comparison with the other Warchiefs, she has a lower attack ratio but a tremendous defense that will allow her to lead her armies and survive until victory is hers!
Fame Bonuses:
- Kindred Spirit: Having an Armored Bear or a Shield Maiden in an area increases local production by 15%
- The Bear Awakens: You gain +5 Fame per enemy unit killed in an area with the Shield Maiden..
Knowledge:
- Hibernation: Your clan members will heal themselves during winter when in your territory.
- Protector of the Land: Gain +1 Happiness per area with at least one military camp.
- Shield Mastery: Shield Bearers cost less money and their resistance is increased
- Harpoons: Fisherman's Huts can have one more Fisherman and their production is increased
- Winter Festivals: Food production loss in winter reduced by 10% & +2 Happiness during winter.
We’re not going to say a lot more in this post, as you would have noticed we just pushed the update to you. So go… update, test, discover! Let us know what you think, we’re sure that you’ll want to find out how well we managed to balance the clan, and we’d love to hear your feedback on how we did.
But wait... There's more!
Changes to other clans:
We studied the balance in the game and made a few changes in the other clans specificities. Here are a few tweaks that we’ve made that should change the way you play a little.
The Clan of the Goat:
- They no longer get reduced food consumption for their villagers, but they get the 30% feasting bonus from the start
- The two free tools are now acquired when reaching 200 Fame
- At 500 Fame, they will now obtain the new "Team Work" Fame step: their defense towers and all their military units gain 20% resistance when feasting.
The Clan of the Wolf:
- The Berserker's attack power has been reduced by ~10%
- The Conqueror knowledge now gives +100% against defense towers instead of +200%
- When reaching 200 Fame, Assault now gives +15% attack bonus instead of +20%
The general AI :
Following our previous patch and your feedback (THANK YOU SO MUCH), we made many improvements to AI which should now prove to be a much stronger opponent - especially in Hard mode. Give us your feedback here!
Other changes
- During winters, if you don't have Fur Coats (and if you are not playing the Bear clan), you will now get -10% attack power inside your territory (and still -30% outside of it)
- Erudition Knowledge has been swapped with Shipbuilding, and has been changed to the following : "Increases Lore Masters production by 10%. Carved stones cost is halved."
- Feeling safe now apply to all military camp buildings instead of Training Camp only
- The order of the profession icons in the lower right corner has been changed to improve usability

Without you guys we wouldn’t be thinking so ambitiously about our future plans for multiplayer, adding more mechanics and generally pushing the game a lot further.
