Hey everyone!
BigScreen 0.2.0 is live on Steam
Vive controllers
Big news in this update: BigScreen now supports Vive controllers and they've got a bunch of capabilities.
- They work in both singleplayer & multiplayer
- Controllers can resize and move the monitors
- Controllers can be used as a mouse on your desktop
- You can also use the SteamVR virtual keyboard to type without needing to see your physical keyboard
- Controllers can turn into laser pointers for pointing at screens
Here's a video explaining how to use the Vive controllers in BigScreen
New streaming code, in the BigScreen Alpha
- Fixes most "black screen & no audio" bugs
- Some multimonitor setups couldn't stream video/audio. This is fixed
- Some multimonitor setups were displaying one monitor, but streaming a different monitor. This is fixed
- Reduced CPU consumption for streaming video
Shout out to Seradin L337Brian & the pre-alpha testers for helping test this week! This Alpha is on Steam under BigScreen>Properties>Betas. Select "alpha" in the dropdown. If it works well for you, we'll release it publicly to the Beta early next week. Test the Alpha in multiplayer rooms and ask other people if they can see your screens and whether the quality (framerate/resolution) is good.
3D Side-by-Side Video
You can now watch 3D movies and games, in 3D Side-by-Side (SBS) and 3D Over-Under (OU) modes. You can enable 3D SBS & 3D OU in the Beta Features in the Settings tab. 3D video works in singleplayer and multiplayer, so you can watch 3D content with friends!
Here are a couple 3D SBS videos that look amazing in BigScreen.
Offline Mode
You can now use BigScreen in singleplayer without an Internet connection.
X-Ray Vision
To make it a bit easier to see where other players are in the virtual apartment, you now see a ghost/outline of players that are in other areas.
Please test the BigScreen Alpha's streaming code! If that goes well, we will be able to release desktop audio streaming in a week.
Until next week!
