Hi guys,
My journey into rendering optimization continues.
Resolution Scale
In the last iteration I've added a new parameter called resolution Scale
Resolution scale lets you to set the screen resolution percetage in order to boost rendering speed.
Resolution scale is different from setting screen resolution for many reasons:
1 - You have almost infinite resolutions to try changing them with a slider
2 - Game gui/text keeps original resolution (i.e. they aren't affected by scaling)
3 - Better image quality (compared to the equivalent resolution) due to bilinear filtering
In the image above the system used for test is:
- CPU i7 2.8 Ghz
- Geforce GTX 650
- 4 Gb RAM
The resolution is scaled by 75% obtaining 36 FPS for completely enlarged image (no editor GUI).
This technique has been recently used into games like DOOM and BATTLEFILED, now also S2ENGINE HD :)
NOTE
Resolution can be also scaled by a 2.0 factor which means having a supersampled (perfeclty antialiased) final image for all who own a powerful system and want a better image quality
