So V0.12 had taken a long time. Far too long. Just shy of 5 months…
Back in November 2016 we were 7 months into Early Access and it was clear to us the game wasn’t in the state we wanted it to be in.
We needed to take some drastic action.
First we started by pin pointing key features that needed to get in. Things we were missing. Then we tackled bugs, crashes, disappearing items, things that were crucial to fix.
Then we looked at flow and motivation, what cool things there are to do and why would you do them?
All these things needed to be tackled to turn the game into what it was suppose to be, what our original vision was. It was a lot of work.
Now we’re here on the brink of the update rolling out. And the game has come on leaps and bounds!
But even so close to V0.12 we’re not done. V0.12 is just the beginning of what we want to achieve with The Black Death.
So what can you expect?
Day / Night cycle
This ones been a long time coming.
After having some issues with replication we finally cracked it. It’s now fully functioning in game. Mitch and Cam have also implemented some nifty little tech that allows us to tie game play mechanics to time of day, very cool, and something we definitely hope to make additions to in the future!
James and Mitch tag-teamed a “days survived” mechanic to go along with this feature. Every day you manage to stay alive in Mercia you get a little bit better, shame staying alive isn’t always that easy…

Revamped player housing
Another system a long time in the works.
This one has a big caveat, V0.12 is very much the tip of the new housing system iceberg. The version landing in V0.12 will have the core feature set of the house for all your basic medieval needs. As we roll out more and more updates this is a feature we’re are planning on expanding on in a big way.
Ditch those dirty beggar rags it’s time to become a home owner!
New music
We have 10+ brand new music track, lovingly crafted by our buddies over at PitStop Productions, here’s a little teaser!

New spawn Locations
Life is hard enough as a beggar without getting lost in Ravens Reach as soon as you spawn in!
John and I have been busy revamping the beaches to provide sun, sea and sand for all your fresh spawns. Enjoy washed up corpses, piles of rotten sticks, barrels full of moldy bread and your fellow beggars ready to crush your skull with a stick club – the beaches of Mercia are truly a delight!
Revamped combat system
Another one from Mitch and James here. Combat has prove to be a very difficult system to fine tune, it has a lot of moving parts and relies heavily on “game feel”. With V0.12 combat is driven by an improved physics system meaning more accurate swings and hits, better feedback from striking different materials and a generally more responsive game play experience. Good news for all the knights out there.
Pillaging areas
John and I have been busy building horrible areas that nobody in their right mind would want to visit – unless you want the best loot in the game! Full of plague, bandits, wolves and the infected these places are for group PvE parties to tackle. This is another system we’re planning on expanding on in future updates with new areas and new loot. This goes along with changes in loot and crafting but you’ll have to wait for the update for more info!
And much more…
Yes on top of all this there will be more but to find out what exactly you’ll have to wait for March 30th !
As a final note I just want to say thank you from all the team. Thank your suggestions, your bug submission and for sticking with us and patiently waiting for V0.12.
Now back to working on the game!
