⚖️ Update v0.4.0 - The Grounded Reality & Appellate Update
This massive update radically transforms the depth of your practice, introducing high-stakes trial mechanics, deep firm management, and unpredictable client behavior, all wrapped in a more grounded, immersive universe.
✨ Major New Features
The Appellate System: A conviction isn't always the end. If you proactively argue objections and preserve issues on the record during a trial, you can now file a costly Notice of Appeal (15,000 / 40 hours) to the Appellate Court for a chance to overturn the verdict and radically boost your firm's reputation.
Trial Momentum & Prosecutorial Pushback: Trials are no longer a static sequence. Prosecutors will now actively object to aggressive cross-examinations, especially if they smell blood in the water. Successfully arguing against them builds Trial Momentum, which permanently factors into the Judge's final verdict calculations.
Pre-Trial Depositions: Don't wait for trial to uncover the truth. You can now depose witnesses during the Pre-Trial phase to unlock hidden discrepancies and completely new cross-examination dialogue trees.
Jury Selection (Voir Dire): Use your peremptory strikes wisely to weed out severely biased or hostile jurors before opening statements. A hostile jury will tank your trial momentum from the start.
Expert Witnesses & Daubert Hearings: Spend big to hire experts. Successfully argue their methodology in a pre-trial Daubert hearing to admit them, granting a massive trial advantage and countering opposing evidence.
Complete Firm Management: Automate your firm by spending operating funds to hire Paralegals (reduces action costs), Investigators (auto-discovers evidence weekly), and Associates (auto-handles initial appearances for misdemeanors).
Procedural Document Generation: Randomly generated cases now dynamically write fully readable Charging Documents and Probable Cause Affidavits, populated with procedurally generated evidence, names, and case facts.
🎭 Client Psychology & Chaos
"Guilty Client" Encounters: Not every case is winnable. Some clients arrive dead-to-rights with insurmountable evidence. You must use the new "Counsel Client" action to deliver the hard truth, spending their trust to force them to accept a plea deal before trial.
Pro Se / Overactive Clients: Beware of toxic clients filing bizarre, incoherent motions behind your back while you sleep. These rogue filings will frustrate the judge, damage your case, and eventually force you to formally Withdraw as Counsel.
Firm Economy & Client Retainers: Case work now deducts directly from a client's tracked retainer funds. If they run out of cash, you'll need to absorb the costs pro bono, drop the case, or push for a swift plea.
🌎 Lore, Immersion, & UI
The Grounded Realism Pass: Removed immersion-breaking, cartoonish character nicknames (e.g., "Ricky the Rodent") to ensure the game feels like a gritty, high-stakes legal simulator.
Expanded Universe Lore: Case locations and constitutional references have been updated to explicitly take place within the Ambearth universe (Blorshington, Ambicity, and Article I, Section 7/9).
Unified Court Document Viewer: The court viewer UI now dynamically reacts to the severity of the charges, accurately identifying whether you are practicing in District Court (misdemeanors) or Superior Court (felonies).
Aesthetic Overhaul: Deep polish pass across menus, including gradient alerts for plea rejections, enhanced testing stability across all builds, and the removal of the intrusive notification popups in the top right corner of the screen.
