Highly anticipated update on Episode 2!

Hi everyone!

We haven’t shared news with you for quite some time and some may have thought that something went wrong on our end and there will be no Episode 2. No need to worry: the development is well under way and this fall you will be hearing some big news. We won’t yet disclose exactly which ones in order not to spoil the surprise. However, we will tell (and show) what has been done so far.

Main menu. It will remind you of a light at the end of the path

This image will greet you in the main menu. Have you ever wondered whether the player sees the main menu more than anything else in the game or not? Regardless of how much gameplay time the title has, even in one single location - each time you will probably see the in-game graphics from slightly different angle, the landscapes and characters will keep changing and evolving, and your attention in general will be drawn to several different things at once.

And only the main menu is kind of set in stone and unique. You see it every time you launch the game. You see it every time you quit the game. Slowly you stop paying attention to it - but it is still out there.

The main menu is almost finalized. There are some final touches to be made, but in the near future we will show you not only art, but the music and the layout of the buttons as well.

Let’s talk about the technical part of things.

Adventure System. A new scenario editor, which minimizes bugs

Take a look at this screenshot. During the development of The Uncertain: Episode 1 we have used Adventure Creator - a Unity asset for creation of simple adventure games. However its capacity quickly became insufficient for us. One shouldn’t swap horses in midstream, so we had to write a lot of add-ons which expanded capabilities of Adventure Creator. That was the main reason for lots of bugs and inconveniences in character’s controls.

Well, any kind of experience is useful to the project and it should not be ignored. We are taking into account each and every review for Episode 1 and thanks to that it became clear that expanding on Adventure Creator not only caused a lot of problems for us, but also affected your enjoyment of the game. That’s why for Episode 2 our programmer wrote a new program and called it Adventure System. It is a new scenario editor, on which we build up our own game logic. That’s the thing in the screenshot above.

What does it mean for you? That’s right: less clunky controls and a significantly decreased amount of bugs. But of course no one can guarantee that there will be no mistakes at all.

Pharmacy, one of the first locations in Episode 2

At this moment the development is in full swing: the script and the gameplay are confirmed, we are writing actual quests and puzzles. The first three levels already have concept-arts and music and currently are getting their 3D look.

The warehouse, another location from Episode 2

Draft in-game footage

Following the link above you can see a short video which shows some of the locations of Episode 2. Of course this is just a preview. But even here one can see how the graphics from Episode 1 evolve in this new installment.
