BLUF: Addressing concerns post-EA launch regarding state of the build, gameplay onboarding, upcoming features, pricing, and asset integrity.
All,
We want to begin by thanking everyone who has joined us in building Burned Horizons over our first two weeks in Early Access, as well as those who have supported this passion project since the beginning. We also want to thank everyone who has offered constructive criticism and feedback, and we’d like to take a moment to address a few common topics raised across our platforms.
State of the Game:
While we have always aimed to be as transparent as possible regarding the state of the build via pinned posts, community updates, and videos, some have the impression that this is a finished game. That is simply not the case. Burned Horizons is in active Early Access development with targeted weekly updates, fixes, and expansions. We welcome and encourage feedback because we want this project to be representative of our player community. Several features currently in-game came directly from community input. Opening up to Early Access allows us to dedicate more resources directly to development while giving players a voice in how the game progresses. Many of our core community and development staff are veterans and recognize the value of direct feedback and debriefs.
Tutorial and Onboarding:
For those new to the game and our systems who need a primer explaining basic gameplay, we have put together a quick primer video, a long-form video demonstrating various gameplay features, and a comprehensive list of quick-reference tutorial guides.
Upcoming Features:
Burned Horizons is in active development with a full slate of features and mechanics being prepared for release. These also include:
• Missions, Ops and the Contract system.
• Expansion of the trauma triage, field treatment, and CASEVAC (casualty evacuation) system.
• Squad equipment customization and player-generated characters as recruitable assets in-game.
Pricing:
Our primary focus is expanding and improving game systems throughout Early Access. We are a small indie studio that wants to build something special without being beholden to a publisher who would sacrifice vision for a bottom line. To sustain our current development pace and keep full-time production moving forward, our Early Access price reflects the baseline needed to fund ongoing development. We continue to evaluate future promotional options and regional adjustments as development progresses.
Generative Art Policy:
There is no use of AI generative art, or assets. The few concept art items or assets that have been obtained through 3rd party sources (and heavily edited by us) that were certified as non generative by vendors but were flagged internally or externally as being questionable have all been removed. We've also instituted internal controls when it comes to vetting placeholder art until we finish onboarding a team artist in the October studio expansion.
Conclusion:
We hope this has helped clear up these topics. This is an ongoing conversation, and if you have any comments or questions, please reach out to us directly on Discord, Steam, or social media.
Always Forward.
