[RE: AN EYE FOR REALISM]
Operators,
Wanted to put some of our original character renders up, both here and Steam, for a couple of reasons.
First, this gives you a real barometer. These are real, hand-built assets, modeled, textured, and rendered in-engine, the same characters and same assets you'll actually see in the game. Right now there's a real gap between the renders and how the same characters appear in live gameplay, and that's mostly down to post-processing, lighting, and effects. We're actively closing it.
Some of the gear you'll see in these early renders isn't fully era-authentic yet. That's known, and some of it has actually already been addressed and pulled from what you'll see in-game. What's left is being worked through as we move towards EA and 1.0. New revenue through EA enables us to bring on additional team members: 3D artists, animators, effects specialists, and everything will just keep getting better. It's all layers, improving what exists now and building on top of it.
This also ties into where we're heading down the line: building out roles like gunsmiths and technical specializations. But the reason this matters goes beyond just getting access to newer gear, it's about representing how things actually work in the real world. Real people improvise. They adapt. Special operators and PMCs have historically had access to certain gear and modifications long before it ever reached wider military adoption or the mass market. That's a real pattern, innovation happening at the micro level before it ever shows up at the macro level, one thing leading to another.
None of this is about inventing anything that couldn't have plausibly existed. No special alloy that conveniently solves a problem no one could actually solve at the time. It's about staying within the realm of what was genuinely plausible given the actual circumstances and technology of the era. Not a strict historical snapshot. Not invention for its own sake either. Realism and authenticity are the goal, but we're not locked into exactly what happened, down to the year or the exact piece of gear.
Always Forward.
