EA Spring Update 0.6
Dear rabbit connoisseurs,
tl;dr You can pet your rabbits by right-clicking, and we generally improved the game a lot.
Thank you very much for your feedback and patience! We’ve read all the discussions and comments, and enjoyed helping you with rabbit-breeding through sharing screenshots on Discord. Many questions you’ve asked have now been answered in the tutorial (or the updated in-game book!). We’ve also resolved some of the bigger issues our players pointed out, and made Rare Rabbits cozier. Spoiler: at the end of the post, I’ll give you a sneak peek of our next steps!
What’s new in the update?
Pet the Rabbits:
Yes, you can now pet the rabbits. Use the button in the rabbit menu or right-click on the meadow.
Try it out before you keep reading. It’s worth it.
It’s now cozier:
Seasons & new music:
in addition to summer and winter, there’s now spring and fall.
In order to crank the vibes of each season up to the maximum, we’ve completely revamped the music: now, each season has its own soundtrack!
Times of the day: we pushed the coziness further and added more variety to the clouds and times of the day. It can depend on when you’re playing the game, or you can have the sceneries change randomly - enable this in the Settings if you’d like to enjoy them all regardless of the real-life time.
Weather: you’ve seen it snow in winter, and now it also rains. This makes the experience feel much more natural!
Yes, your rabbits can smile now.
Sometimes I just sit in front of the computer for ten minutes and just watch my rabbits smile.
Tutorial and Book:
Finally, we made the tutorial! Check it out even if you’ve already bread your fair share of rabbits: it’s a short one and will likely help you further in the game.
We’ve also included more explanations in the book, for example, of symbols and sections.
The genetics chapter has been significantly expanded, so now you have a neat overview of the traits you can breed for.
Money and the Value of Your Rabbits:
We’ve added 1,000 euros (in-game ones) to your balance to kick off the endless game.
The value of a rabbit is now separate from standalone allele combinations: you can now sell your rabbit for its full value.
The value of the rabbits now increases by €6 per month and, after one year, by €7 per month. Full value is reached after two years.
Some tasks will bring you significantly more money than others - complete these to progress in the game.
That second pasture is still expensive and costs €10,000, so you can focus more on the single pasture and breeding at the start.
Ethical Discussions about Breeding and Rabbits (TW: Pet death)
A breeding game naturally sparks discussions related to the ethical side of breeding of living beings. We’ve had several of these talks over the past few months and remain committed to keeping the game cozy without ignoring these debates.
Young rabbits still cannot be given away during their second and third months. Currently, we still allow giving them away during the first month. We will keep an eye on this and may remove this option in the future.
Rabbits naturally die after about 10 years. In the game, we are keeping death by old age. Given the game’s duration, few players have reached this point yet.
Rabbits can also get sick if their happiness is low. If they get sick twice, they will also pass away. We understand the critical opinions on this, BUT: if you don’t feed your rabbits, keep them locked up too long, and don’t take care of them, there should be a consequence for the rabbits’ well-being. For this reason, we consider this mechanism important.
Meanwhile, the likelihood of a rabbit becoming pregnant increases with happiness. We use this to reward happy rabbits.
Inbreeding is a common risk in rabbit breeding. We have sought a good way to address this issue without letting it become the overriding concern. The previous adjustments to the scoring system are just one part of our solution. Furthermore, the number of offspring resulting from inbreeding is now significantly reduced, and there is a certain likelihood that the rabbit will become sickly and its well-being will decline.
If you’ve got ideas of how we can improve this aspect - we’re all ears, in Discord! 🐰
What’s next for Rare Rabbits?
We’ll keep going down this rabbit hole of breeding, and in different directions - exploring this topic from different sides will make the game more fun and replayable. I’ll tell you about it later!
The existent systems are still being improved and all feedback is more than welcome. Our team is extremely grateful for the support and suggestions from our community, we learn literally from every comment we receive!
We want to give you something extra, so… how about YOUR fluffy companion in the game? The list of bunny names in the game is updated all the time: feel free to showcase your pets (all kinds of animals!) in our Discord, tell us their name, and we’ll add it to the list.
The customers from Rare Rabbits could make great VTuber careers if they chose that path - so we’re looking for actual VTubers who would like to be featured in the game! Jade Velfire is already in the game and will be giving you a task in one of the quests - maybe it will be you in the next one? Just message us on Discord or
and let’s talk! The only limitation is to keep it all SFW.
More translations are coming up! We’ll continue to localize the game and ask for your patience - some languages are already in the works but not yet ready.
The more different tasks there are - the more fun the game is, and we know it, so look forward to a wider variety of quests and minigames. As of now, you can only breed a limited number of genotypes (6 million) - but we’ve already gained a better understanding of certain biological processes and are ready to take the next steps. Which means we will work on this system to make more breeding combinations possible.
Thanks again for your supPAWrt and patience!
