Hello people of the Unseen!
Now, usually I’d start off by plugging the Discord, then maybe I’d say some other things but I want to instead start off by reminding everyone that Chapter II releases on March 10th!
In my last announcement, I posted the trailer… but what’s one more trailer post?
Exciting huh?
I hope it’s exciting enough.
But anyways, I want to also mention that this is the final Dev Dive that’ll feature anything new for Chapter II, that’s right… this is the final dive for this second trip down beneath the surface…
But obviously, there’s still stuff I must share…
So, let’s take a look shall we…?
Note because I know some people might read this wrong:
This is also NOT the final dive for the entire game, there will continue to be dives up until 1.0.
FISHY FOES
Right, so last dive I showed off some concept art for the Angler Droids, and well… since the last dive they’ve been added to the game!
Hidden below the Forgotten Foundation, these three robots have been inactive for quite a while… and are quick to awaken once they detect a suitable target… someone who is constantly squinting, someone who is complet- yeah it’s Winston, sorry buddy but you need to move those little legs faster, Albert is hungry.
But… once you’ve escaped these mechanical nightmares, what awaits you?
More foundation? More caves?
Well… let’s find out…
DOWN THE BOREHOLE
We’ve arrived at the final stop on this journey, the deep dirty root ridden lair of a foe who we’ll be meeting very soon…
While the name of this place is somewhat of a mystery, what resides down here… and what created all of this… is an even bigger question waiting to be answered…
These tunnels aren’t manmade, and no life resides in these desolate and dirty pits… it’s almost as if whatever comes down into these tunnels…
regrets it soon after…
TO ESCAPE IS TO SUFFER
Throughout Chapter II, one thing will be keeping you going, making you delve deeper, forcing you to fight for your life…
What is this thing? Well, it’s none other than the way to the surface, a train.
I mentioned it briefly back in Dev Dive #4, and ever since I’ve kept it a secret until this very moment! Chapter II’s entire goal is to fix the train and claim your freedom, even if you must face some truly horrific foes, and even more brutal circumstances.
All in order to just have a small glimmer of hope… even if it’s fading fast…
To escape is to suffer, and to suffer is to escape…
Chapter I was the starting point… and now…
It’s time to dive into the deep end.
GOING UP
Now, as this is the final dive for Chapter II, it’s obvious there’s going to be some things related to Chapter III in here as I am quickly running out of things to discuss regarding the second chapter.
Make sense? No? Well I wrote this bit while half asleep so it might not make much sense.
Pretty much, I want to discuss something coming in Chapter III… Climbing Hooks!
These hooks are especially designed to let The Lab’s personnel navigate through the tunnels of The Depths without too much hassle.
They can be lodged into just about anything!
Rocks, pointy rocks, drones, flesh, you name it!
Perhaps you’ll be able to get some use out of these…? Who knows!
Oh... and there's also been a metric crap tonne of other things that I've been working on... maybe I might share some info on that... next dive...?
FUN FACT
Right, let’s end this shall we? Fun fact, like how we always do…
Did you know:
The name Depths Unseen hasn’t always been… unseen? It’s actually gone through a few name changes before!
The very first name for the game was “Submechanophobia, The Dark Deep”, which was too long, so it was just shortened to Submechanophobia!
But then, as the game became less ocean focused, the name needed changing.
One that was considered was “Winston: What Lies Beneath”, but it was disregarded shortly afterwards because it sorta implied more games, or a basic understanding of who Winston was.
But eventually, the final name was decided… Depths Unseen!
I prefer this name way more, because it’s more interesting, and captures the vibes of the game almost perfectly.
But with that, this ends our final dive into Chapter II, and technically our second into Chapter III?
I’m too tired to figure that out.
Now… as Chapter II is on the horizon, that means quite a bit of stress has been put onto me, and to say the least... it's been a bit of a up and down adventure.
Releasing a project that I've been working on for a little longer than I'd like to admit is... rough.
But, things can always get good again, so I need to remember to just keep pushing through these negative emotions, even if it seems like they’ll last forever.
I also want to yet again thank the people of Depthscord and my family for being here through this insane journey, Chapter II is by far the biggest undertaking I’ve ever experienced! And I couldn’t have done it without those amazing folks who kept cheering even in the lower moments.
Depths Unseen wouldn’t be the same without you all.
