Hey everyone!
I’ve had a bunch of comments asking whether the game runs on the Steam Deck, and honestly, I’ve really wanted this myself too! Patterns of the Oak feels like a great fit for a handheld device. It took a bit of work but I’m pretty happy with how it runs now, so I wanted to make a quick post sharing some details.
The first challenge was that Patterns of the Oak relies on very precise input, perfect for a mouse, but trickier with a joystick. I ended up adding a few features to make things smoother on gamepad, and after some practice, I feel like it plays surprisingly well on both gamepads and the Steam Deck.
Touch input is another great fit for the game, and the Deck supports it! There is a catch though - the newer OLED models feel super responsive, but the older LCD models seem to have some input delay that makes touch play pretty difficult, but I'm not sure if this is the case with all devices! I’m still looking into it, but it might simply come down to hardware limitations, which would be unfortunate.
I’d love to hear what you think!
Thanks,
Beau & Sam
