Under the default Proton option (ULWGL-Proton-8.0-5-3 at time of writing), the game will successfully initialize the Steam API. But then crash in DXVK a bit more than 5 seconds after launch.
To run the game on Linux:
Set the beta branch to "2012-12-21.2" for the original release of the game.
Force compatibility options to use Proton 8.0-5. The game won't be able talk to the Steam API, but it should otherwise run fine.
