Hi everyone, for the past 2 weeks, the focus has been on improving gamepad (and Steam Deck) support, which should be a lot better in the new version 0.04.09.
Here are some of the new features:
Access to Inventory bar with D-Pad
It is now possible to select items in the inventory bar and use or drop them using the D-Pad on the controller. The inventory panel is still accessible for other actions on items, but this can be very useful for faster equipping or faster eating.
Mouse Mode
When holding the Left-Trigger, a cursor will appear on screen which can be moved like a mouse with the joystick. This can be extremely useful to interact with some UI elements such as pinned quests, or to hover UI and get more information about it. Or to perform actions that would be hard to do with regular gamepad controls (such as sowing seeds in a hanging plant pot).
Added gamepad controls in more UI panels
Some UI panels couldn't be controlled by gamepad at all in previous versions, these will now work properly: All the tabs in the town/totem panel, the player panels (skills, scenario, town list, rebel list), placing pins on the map, changing villager roles, and settings.
Other Gamepad Improvements
-Camera can now be controlled with the gamepad by holding the Left-Trigger and using the right stick.
-Tutorials will now show gamepad controls when playing with a gamepad or Steam deck.
-The Controls section in the Settings now also shows gamepad controls.
-Buttons on screen will now show gamepad buttons instead of showing keyboard buttons when playing with gamepad (such as inventory and crafting menu).
-Added shortcuts in inventory panels: X to use item, Y to drop, RT to open action list, RS to transfer between bag and inventory.
-Action list can now be selected with gamepad.
-Placing buildings with gamepad is a lot better, and you can use mouse mode for more complex placement such as hanging ropes and bridges.
-Added the map as a tab in the player panels to make it accessible on gamepad.
Other Unrelated Changes
-Added new dialogues to guide new players into asking for help to villagers.
-Made the resist potion use any type of tree cone.
-Added seeds for other types of ferns.
-Fixed "inventory full" showing even if the bag had available slots when picking animals.
-Fixed overlapping display of rebellion banner crafting cost
-Renamed Scythe to Sickle
Feedback is welcome!
If anyone plays on Steam Deck or with a controller, you can share your experience with the new controls on Discord or in the Steam forum. We will continue to update controls based on players feedback.
