“Isn’t is scary, working on a game like Huntsman?” We get this one a lot. Yes, the game was inspired by a personal phobia. Yes, the spiders are scary and sometimes we get an unexpected jump when they grab us in-game. But are we immune to it, generally? Sort of. And then we put the tarantula in. That’s when everything changed.
The tarantula is the biggest, fastest and most aggressive of the four spider types. While orb weaver and trapdoor spiders will instantly kill you if you stray too close, they can be avoided. Huntsman can be distracted or snuck past. But the tarantula is in a whole different class. It is also the most requested spider type from the community and we’ve wanted to talk about this for a very long time, so keeping it locked tight has been a challenge!
(Also, getting this damn spider to behave for trailer and screenshot capture has been like trying to wrangle…well, wrangle an enormous tarantula. It has chased down and killed our video team more than every other spider put together!)
You’ll encounter your first (note the operative word there) tarantula in the office area, a collection of desks and meeting rooms overlooking the terrarium, that is now eerily silent and covered in webbing. But beware. The tarantula uses this to both detect and immobilise prey, so the second you touch it, the hunt begins. To all the demo players who outran the huntsman - this thing is faster than you are. It WILL catch you. It WILL kill you. Be quiet, be cautious, be safe. Episode Four of Creature Features has the answers, so tune in and get clued up.
Huntsman launches Nov 27th. Please make sure to wishlist the game, try the demo, join our social channels and shout our name to your friends.
