Heyo! Yano here with this devlog: We have a crazy new update we're super excited about!
First and foremost: Addressing Softlocks
We have taken several measures to address unfortunate circumstances that could lead to players saving into a save soft locking scenario. Such measure include:
An entirely new, made from scratch save states system
A difficulty slider, that lets you choose between: Story, Balanced, and Merciless
New shops, healers, and warnings before "Trials" (areas you won't immediately be able to leave)
Reduced the number of non-exitable areas by opening up some exits
If you encountered this issue on your play through, firstly, we're really sorry about that!
Game development always proves difficult, and we learn more and more with each new game and update.
If you have a save that got locked, please try loading in and searching for a new shop or healer nearby, and make full use of the new save states system. In the worst case, you can even try dipping your save down into Story difficulty to make getting out easier (you won't lose any type of benefit, and can change back to Balanced difficulty later)

With that out of the way, lets get on to our next BIG change:
The All-New Difficulty Slider

An all new difficulty slider lets you play the game in multiple ways:
Story, Balanced, and Merciless
This difficulty slider shows up when starting a new save, but you can also change between the difficulty modes at any time, from the brand new and fully reworked options menu.
Before, Yami Kids was mostly just based on the "Balanced" difficulty. We've made this very slightly easier, added a Story difficulty, which lets you experience the full game without too much difficulty (not "way too easy", just "just right"), whereas Merciless keeps the difficulty of the original default game difficulty, plus slightly more so. Merciless can be selected when making a new save, and downgraded at any time. However, downgrading will remove the "Merciless" mark from your save profile.
All New Options Menu, with New Settings

The options menu has been essentially remade from scratch, vastly improving it's functions and usability, while also adding new settings, including Always On for monster health, for users that don't want to play the guessing game.
Inspect Once, Remember Forever

There's new ways to remember data, including a default setting that lets you inspect once, and remember that data for forever. The setting is on by default in Balanced and Story, and off for Merciless.
In Other News
This is really just the tip of the iceberg in recent changes, and I don't want to keep you here all day. Aside from what's mentioned above, we also greatly improved monsters movepools, updated several monsters elements to make more sense (i.e. make evolving monsters retain their previous elements).
Another notable new additions is benched party monsters evolving, some new moves (like the SP draining ones) and items to help add more variety, balance, and individuality to your monsters and gameplay, as well as countless adjustments, improvements, and balance patches.
I'll put the full changelog below for anyone that's curious!

One Last Thing ...
Finally ... Thank you everyone so much for playing our new game, Yami Kids, and especially to those that left reviews, provided feedback, and all in all helped support and improve this game. This update is HUGE, and vastly improves the game, but if wouldn't have been possible without your voice!
We will continue to listen to feedback, and update the game where we feel necessary. In the meantime, we hope you can come back to Yami Kids, and enjoy future games, content, and potential DLC we may see on the horizon one day~
To anyone that's been enjoying the game, we would really appreciate it if you left a review on the main Steam page! (No pressure). Leaving a review is the no. 1 best way to support an indie game, especially one that released so recently likes ours^^ I'll leave a link to the Steam page below!
Thank you so much for your support! ♡
Thank you again for everyone who's taken the time to play the game. If anyone has any feedback, we're all ears and listening on several channels. Feel free to leave a message on Discord, or community hub at any time.
That's all, cheers!

Previously some monsters would have their elements/typings and sins completely change on evolution, which would ruin some players team compositions, make monsters less relevant for play, or ruin players first choice sin crest as the monster who would use it no longer can.
