Devlog #5 — The Road to Version 1.0
Hello, everyone!
Almost a year has passed since Container Terminal Simulator entered Early Access, and today I'm excited to officially announce the release date of the full version.
Container Terminal Simulator 1.0 launches on September 24, 2026.
This is a very important milestone for me as an indie developer. When I first released the game in Early Access, I had a clear vision of a railway logistics simulator where players could build, manage, and gradually expand their own container terminal. However, I also knew that the project would continue to evolve alongside the community. Many of the systems that now define the game were shaped, improved, or completely rethought during Early Access.
Over the last few months, the project has undergone its largest transformation since release. Rather than focusing only on frequent small updates, I decided to dedicate development time to rebuilding core systems, redesigning the interface, improving performance, and preparing the game for a stable and complete full release.
This period has been challenging, especially while working on so many interconnected systems as an independent developer. Some changes were not immediately visible, and several improvements required rebuilding existing features instead of simply adding new ones. Nevertheless, this work was necessary to make the game more reliable and to create a stronger foundation for the future.
Before diving into the changes, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported the game throughout Early Access. Every review, bug report, suggestion, discussion, and wishlist has helped shape the direction of this project. Your feedback has often shown me how players actually use the terminal, which systems feel intuitive, and which areas still need more attention.
Stability became the foundation
The primary objective of version 1.0 has been reliability.
As the game grew, it became clear that some of its original systems were no longer sufficient for the scale and complexity of the terminal. More trains, containers, vehicles, workers, and background processes meant that the game needed a stronger technical foundation. Instead of continuing to build on top of temporary solutions, I spent a significant amount of time reviewing and restructuring the internal architecture.
A substantial part of the game's underlying technology has been redesigned, including the save system, background logic, object interaction, and the way different terminal systems communicate with one another. These changes dramatically reduce micro-stutters, improve overall responsiveness, and create a much smoother gameplay experience during large-scale terminal operations.
The save system has received particular attention. Since players can invest many hours into developing their terminal, protecting their progress is one of my highest priorities. The new structure is designed to handle more information while remaining more stable and easier to expand with future updates.
I have also worked on improving the behavior of background systems. Tasks such as cargo processing, vehicle movement, terminal statistics, and economic calculations now operate more efficiently, reducing unnecessary work while the player is managing the terminal.
A completely redesigned industrial interface
One of the most noticeable improvements in version 1.0 is the entirely new user interface.
As the number of available systems increased, the original interface became less consistent and more difficult to navigate. I wanted the new version to feel more professional, readable, and appropriate for an industrial logistics simulator. Every management screen has therefore been rebuilt around a unified design language inspired by real logistics control systems, railway dispatch centers, and industrial monitoring software.
The goal was not only to modernize the visuals, but also to make complex terminal management more intuitive and easier to understand. Important information should be visible at the right moment, while less frequently used options should remain accessible without overwhelming the player.
From statistics and terminal upgrades to customization, services, and monitoring, every system now shares the same visual identity. Buttons, panels, icons, colors, and information layouts have been adjusted to create a more coherent experience across the entire game.
This redesign also gives me a much better foundation for future content. New features can now be integrated into an established interface instead of requiring a completely different visual solution each time.
Deeper logistics management
Version 1.0 introduces a much more sophisticated operational layer.
Containers are no longer simple objects waiting for transportation. They now possess their own operational history, condition, status, and lifecycle inside the terminal. This makes each container feel more like part of a living logistics network rather than just another piece of cargo placed on the ground.
Players can monitor cargo movement, follow the progress of shipments, identify delays, and make strategic decisions based on real terminal activity. The more efficiently the terminal is organized, the easier it becomes to process incoming and outgoing cargo without creating unnecessary congestion.
This also creates more room for different play styles. Some players may prefer to focus on fast train operations, while others may enjoy carefully organizing storage areas, optimizing warehouse workflows, or improving the overall flow of vehicles and containers across the terminal.
At the same time, the economic model has become more dynamic. Efficient planning, timely shipments, infrastructure maintenance, and overall terminal performance now play a much larger role in determining profitability. Expanding too quickly can create additional costs, while investing in the right improvements can make future operations significantly more efficient.
The intention is not to make the game unnecessarily complicated, but to make the player's decisions feel more meaningful. Every upgrade, layout change, and operational choice should have a visible effect on the way the terminal functions.
New mechanics without changing the game's identity
While the core gameplay remains centered around railway logistics, version 1.0 expands the ways players interact with their terminal.
New infrastructure, additional progression levels, improved cargo handling, warehouse operations, enhanced vehicle functionality, dynamic weather, and expanded management systems all work together to create a more complete logistics simulation without sacrificing the original gameplay philosophy.
The terminal is still built around the same fundamental ideas: receive cargo, organize it efficiently, load and unload trains, manage vehicles, expand infrastructure, and gradually turn a small operation into a large and profitable logistics hub.
At the same time, the surrounding systems now provide more variety and atmosphere. Weather conditions help make the terminal feel less static, while improved vehicle and cargo interactions make everyday operations more satisfying. Warehouses and pallet-based cargo handling also add new layers to the workflow, giving players more reasons to plan how different areas of the terminal are arranged.
Progression has been expanded as well. New levels and improvements provide clearer long-term goals and allow the terminal to develop in a more natural way. Instead of simply unlocking isolated features, players can now feel how their entire operation grows over time.
Some of the new mechanics are intentionally being kept secret for now—I would rather let players discover a few surprises themselves on release day. There are still several details I want players to experience directly, without revealing everything in advance through screenshots or patch notes.
Performance and polish
A large portion of development time has also gone into optimization and quality-of-life improvements.
Hundreds of small issues have been resolved, numerous background systems have been optimized, and many interactions have been refined based directly on community feedback gathered throughout Early Access. Some of these changes may seem minor individually, but together they make the game feel considerably more responsive and consistent.
I have paid particular attention to moments when the player is managing several operations at once. Large terminals can contain many active objects, and the game needs to remain comfortable to play even when multiple trains are arriving, vehicles are moving cargo, and several systems are updating simultaneously.
The user experience has also been improved in many smaller ways: clearer feedback, more consistent controls, better information presentation, and fewer unnecessary interruptions. These are the kinds of changes that may not always appear in promotional screenshots, but they have a major impact after several hours of gameplay.
Although these improvements are less visible than new features, they have arguably had the greatest impact on the overall experience. A stable and responsive game allows players to focus on planning their terminal instead of thinking about technical problems.
Final weeks before release
Development is now entering its final stage.
The remaining time before September 24 will be dedicated primarily to testing, localization, balancing, and polishing every major gameplay system. I will be checking the game across different terminal sizes and play styles, from smaller early operations to large and highly developed logistics hubs.
Testing will also focus on save compatibility, progression, vehicle behavior, cargo handling, interface consistency, and the interaction between different systems. The goal is to identify the remaining issues that may not appear during normal development but become noticeable during longer play sessions.
Localization and final balancing are also important parts of this stage. I want the game to be understandable and comfortable for as many players as possible, while ensuring that progression remains rewarding without becoming too slow or too easy.
The objective is simple: deliver the most stable, complete, and enjoyable version of Container Terminal Simulator to everyone who has supported the project over the past year.
Reaching version 1.0 does not mean that development ends forever. It marks the completion of the Early Access journey and the beginning of a new stage for the game. I already have ideas for future improvements, but first I want to make sure that the full release provides a strong and satisfying experience for both existing players and those discovering the game for the first time.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support has made it possible for me to continue developing this project, and I am incredibly grateful that so many players have chosen to follow the game from its early stages.
See you on September 24! 🚂
