Hey everyone!
We've been hard at work behind the scenes and have some really exciting updates and footage to share with you all. Let's just get into it:
Lip Sync & Voice Overs
This is the part I've been most excited about - lip sync and voice overs! We're in very early stages of starting lip sync for the first voice lines, but it's already beginning to add so much life to the game's characters. Here's a behind the scenes look at some of the lip sync work, and of course, your first look at the voice for Eli, voiced by the incredibly talented Emaley Rose! (Ignore the textures and visuals etc, this is directly from the lip sync software, outside the game)
Motion Capture
A few weeks ago we also wrapped up the motion capture shoots, and I've been hard at work implementing it into the game. It's still in the early stages - the cinematography, camera angles, lighting, and polish are still pending - but some of the animations are already starting to look good, and are really lending the game that cinematic feel.
All of this - the mocap, voice overs and lip sync - come together in the (very work-in-progress!) cinematic below.
What do you think? I'm personally super excited to add all the voices, the lip sync, motion capture and intentionally directed cinematics (more of those later!) and see the world of Shutter Story and its characters truly come alive!
Ever since I started making video games back in 2016, my dream was to make games with cinematics, similar to the story-driven ones I grew up with (Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed etc) It seemed an impossible dream for my early games - I was still learning how to make them - and voice overs, mocap and lip sync are complex and (very) expensive tasks. I'm so excited that Shutter Story has received enough attention and love that it has been possible for me to do it for this game. And for that, I can't thank you all enough!
What's Next
Next week, I return to the other side of the game, which is the photographs. I'll be re-recording the video anomalies, updating the guide, finalizing tutorials, adding a variation to each photo (so that you get a different haunting on a second playthrough) and more! Be sure to check in next time for updates on that! :)
