Hi everyone! Today, we want to go over a bunch of FAQs that we’ve seen across our community channels with regards to vacant islands, a major feature coming to Portal Knights as part of Update v 1.2! Many of you have been asking some excellent questions, so hopefully this blog covers most of them. If not, be sure to leave them in the comments section below and we’ll do our very best to answer them.
OK... Let’s get started, shall we?
Q: What are vacant islands?
A: Vacant islands are basically ‘blank canvases’. We know many of you are keen to build not only a home, but towns filled with houses, gardens, lakes and more! We’ve seen some players spend literally days, if not weeks, flattening out islands and we want to save you guys the time. That’s one of the main reasons we’re bringing this exciting feature to Portal Knights!
Q: How many vacant islands will be available in Portal Knights?
A: We’ll be introducing 5 vacant islands per cluster, 15 in total.
Q: Will there be any enemies on these vacant islands?
A: Nope – Enemies will not spawn on any of these vacant islands.
Q: How do I unlock these islands?
A: Vacant islands are available via NPC merchants in-game. Players will be required to purchase a teleportation scroll, known as a “Deed” which will permanently unlock a flat, blank canvas island.
Q: What else will these NPC’s offer?
A: These NPC's will offer stacks of building blocks for a set amount of coins. The great thing is, these merchants will never run out of these resources and they can be used anywhere in Portal Knights, except the boss levels!
Q: Will I need to regenerate my universe in order to take advantage of this feature?
A: Yes – Should you wish to access the vacant islands, you will be required to regenerate your universe. HOWEVER, do not panic! :) Your home world is safe and you won't have to worry about your character progression. That is safe too! The number of islands you've unlocked will also remain the same.
Q: How do I regenerate my universe?
A: Once you install the latest update, you’ll have the option on the Universe selection screen to regenerate it.
Q: I want to regenerate my universe but I’ve got items scattered across numerous islands! What should I do?
A: Before you regenerate your universe, gather any items you want to keep and take them to your home island. This will ensure that no items get wiped when you regenerate your universe.
Q: What other features will I get to see if I regenerate my universe?
A: Players will get to see the all-new boss quests, our brand-new point’s of interest which include new NPCs with new quests and also our environment changes if they decide to regenerate their universe.
Q: When do I get to check out these new features?
A: Update v 1.2 is scheduled to launch on October 16th on Steam. As for console, once we’ve left the submission phase, we will be able to give you guys a launch date. We are currently targeting an October launch for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Stay tuned to our community channels for more info!
