Hi all, I know this is long overdue and my silence doesn't help. I've currently got two other games in the works but now that the progress on those has been going pretty well I've been able to focus on Wasteland Shop Simulator.
A big pass on controller support, some new on-screen guidance, and a pile of fixes to the shop loop.
Controller controls have changed
Right trigger is now your action button. Placing stock on shelves, scanning items at the register, pressing the register keypad, and confirming furniture placement all moved to RT.
A is now purely pick up / put down / talk. Previously A was doing both jobs at once, which meant placing a product on a shelf would also drop the crate you were carrying. B still returns a product to the crate.
Keyboard and mouse are unchanged.
New: you can see what you're doing
Shelf placement preview. When you're carrying a crate, a ghost of the product now shows exactly which shelf slot it's going into... green when it'll fit, red when it won't. No more placing blind and hoping.
Register prompts. Looking at an item on the counter highlights it and prompts to scan. Looking at the keypad or a tops prompts to interact. Small thing, but checkout is a lot less guesswork on a controller.
90 Hz option added to the frame rate settings, for Steam Deck OLED.
Shop and economy fixes
Your stock no longer multiplies when you load a save.
Setting a price on one product no longer changes another's.
Products now sit at the right angle when placed instead of snapping into position only after a reload.
Utility bills now actually arrive. Once you've rented the shop, bills turn up in the mailbox and you pay them there. This system was completely non-functional before.
Settings and performance
Your settings now stick. Quality, resolution, field of view, VSync, frame rate and volume are all restored when you launch. Previously most of them were saved and then quietly ignored.
Loading screen shows real progress instead of sitting at 0% and jumping straight to 100%.
Performance work, mostly aimed at Steam Deck:
Reduced draw distances and level-of-detail thresholds that were running desktop settings on handheld
The minimap was rendering the entire world at above native resolution every single frame — now much cheaper
Cut a lot of redundant per-frame work, including NPC pathfinding recalculating routes it was already following
Save writes are batched instead of hitting the disk on every transaction, which should help with stutter
Reduced fog cost and fixed reflections refreshing every second and a half
Other fixes
Hiring a cashier no longer shows a "Dismiss Cleaner" button for a cleaner you never hired
The price panel is fully controller-navigable — D-pad adjusts, A saves, B cancels. It previously couldn't be focused at all, and had no way to cancel
You can now back out of the shop naming screen and furniture placement with B
What's coming next?
Content content content... Driveable vehicles working, more mount types, a lot more quests, more dynamic hireable NPCs, more areas to open up shop with an improved economy.
