Big Step Before Alpha – From 2D to 3D Lighting
My game was already close to hitting Alpha – in 2D. But right before that milestone, I decided to take a bold step: moving the entire lighting and shadow system into 3D.
In 2D, I used the Smart Lighting 2D asset. It blends multiple light layers in the shader to create atmospheric shadows and light cones. Works great – but it’s still flat.
In the new 3D approach, lighting happens “for real” in space:
Every lamp, torch, or flashlight actually shines into the game world.
Light can bounce off walls, and shadows are dynamically cast by objects.
When I move or open a door, the lighting changes instantly – just like in real life.
This prototype exists for one reason:
To see if I can capture the same dense atmosphere as in 2D – but with more realism, more depth, and far greater gameplay possibilities.
Add the game to your wishlist now to keep up to date!
