Hello everyone,
I’m updating the Steam page today to move the release timing for The Promethean Project to TBD.
The original Unreal Engine 5.5 prototype proved the direction of the game: a horror investigation built around surveillance feeds, an unstable camera perspective, and a narrator who never stops watching.
But a prototype is not always the right foundation for the final game.
After reviewing the project’s technical base, I’ve decided to rebuild The Promethean Project on Unreal Engine 5.8. With Epic now shifting focus toward Unreal Engine 6, UE5.8 represents the most mature planned Unreal Engine 5 foundation available for the project.
That matters for this game. The Promethean Project depends heavily on lighting, camera behavior, surveillance feeds, rendering stability, and a strange visual language that needs a stronger technical base than the original prototype can provide.
The rebuild is not only technical.
Since the last update, the narrative side of the project has continued to move forward. The first draft of the main story is now complete. Dialogue, clue structure, investigation beats, and branching narrative design have all been expanded as the shape of the game has become clearer.
That has been one of the hardest parts of the project: figuring out how the story should react, unfold, and remain coherent inside a horror investigation built around unstable perspective and surveillance. That work is now much further along than it was when the original prototype was first put together.
This is not a cancellation. It is a rebuild.
The next phase is about carrying forward what worked, replacing the parts of the prototype that would not scale, and making sure the next public footage represents the game as it is actually becoming.
Until the rebuilt foundation is stable and properly scoped, the release date will remain TBD.
Thank you for following the project and for keeping it on your wishlist.
More updates will come as the rebuild progresses.
