Exciting days are ahead.
It's my pleasure to announce that, after three years of development, Fractal Odyssey has an official Development Team!
I'm still the sole developer at least for now, but there are three artists committed to working on this project long-term. There's even contracts involved!
I'll share some of their work for this project at the end, but first - a development update.
As I expected, my own speed has gone down substantially. Between learning to manage a much more active art team, and my own recent employment, I've just barely hit my minimum development goal for this post - all Player Unit Abilities are designed and implemented. This is ~135 abilities altogether (as a reminder, the current demo has about 50 total).
The abilities still need testing, balance, and icons, but the bulk of the upfront work is done. As I develop the Sparks that will be included in the demo, I can also finally start making content again. I'm hoping to have all of the Chapter 1 regular stages done within two-ish weeks, and all the EXtra chapter regular stages done shortly thereafter.
Additionally the first draft of Chapter 1's rewrite is nearly complete. It will enter heavy revision soon, get proper testing, and then begin VO recording for the narrator.
Here's a rough estimate on percentage progress for the remaining Big Goals:
Player Abilities (Design, Implementation, Testing, Balance): 60%
Regular Enemies: 50%
Minibosses: 0%
Bosses: 20%
Stages: 0%
Writing (1st Draft): 70%
Full-game Testing: 0%
Now, the fun part - some samples from the art team. There's three people in total - a unit artist, dialogue artist, and background artist. I am currently scouting for a story CG artist - ping me if you might know someone interested!
The Unit Artist is the same person who did the Petunia I shared a bit ago. As part of this shift, all existing art is being redone for consistency. Here's the resprite for Caithe!
The Dialogue Artist is brand new to the project, but I've been extremely impressed with his work so far.
Finally, the background artist is the same from the demo. Those who've played it have seen plenty of her work already, but...
What might this be?
Soon.
