Hello, Captains!
The Sea of Remnants has been quiet for some time since the Wanderer Test concluded. Over the past six months, our development team has been working around the clock to refine the game while compiling updates and answers to the questions you care about most.
Starting with this letter, we will regularly share the latest development updates, areas we are working to improve, and our plans for the future. We hope you’ll continue following us on this journey!
1. The Closed Beta Test
We’re excited to share at gamescom when our Closed Beta Test will officially begin, with support expected for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android.
Before the game’s official launch, we want to make the most of this important opportunity to further refine the experience. This test will also be larger in scale, allowing us to welcome more Captains and hear more of your feedback and suggestions. Every piece of feedback you share will serve as an important reference as we continue improving the game.
*The recruitment period, available platforms, and supported device models will be confirmed in the official test announcement.
2. Localization
We understand how important text is to experiencing the story, understanding skills, and putting together effective builds. Over the past six months, our team has been working extensively on the game’s localization and voice-over, with the goal of delivering a version that is more accurate, more polished, and capable of bringing a knowing smile to Captains across different languages when the next test begins.
We currently plan to support the following languages:
Voice-over: English, Japanese, and Chinese
Text and subtitles: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, German, and French
3. Supported Platforms and Devices
The next test will include expanded compatibility testing across a wider range of mobile devices, including both iOS and Android. Whether you prefer a large screen or a small one, you’ll be able to hunt for treasure wherever you go!
For the full release, we currently plan to support the following platforms:
PC: Windows PC through the official Sea of Remnants launcher, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store
Console: PlayStation 5, including PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S
Mobile: App Store and Google Play
Handheld: ROG Xbox Ally X
Cloud gaming: Xbox Cloud Gaming
4. See You at gamescom!
1) Playable Demo
At our gamescom booth, we’ll be offering a condensed 20-minute demo set primarily on Echo Isle.
From August 27–30, Captains attending the event will have the opportunity to recruit The Stray Cat and Isabelle before facing the mysterious and dangerous Mermaid Morian. The demo will be available in English, so get ready to put your crew-building skills to the test!
2) Extended Gameplay Showcase
We’ll also be appearing during gamescom Opening Night Live, the IGN Post-Show, and other broadcasts.
In the extended gameplay showcase, Voyagers will journey through the distinctive landscapes of Cove Island, Bridge Island, and Statue Island—and may even catch a glimpse of the fabled Sea of Remnants itself!
This Hamster God promises that every ruin and island you see was captured directly from the game—squeak!!
Word also has it that Ranbo, Orbtopia’s most beloved band, will be taking the stage to perform a brand-new song!!!
3) Interactive Activities
We’ll have plenty of interactive experiences waiting for you at the booth, including a four-frame photo booth, a Puppet Captain dress-up area, and live cosplayer stage performances. Be sure to catch the attention of our photographers and let them capture some unforgettable moments for you!
Closing
Beginning with this issue, we will publish a new Dev Talk at least once every two months. Each issue will focus on a particular theme and provide details about specific changes, our current progress, and what we plan to work on next.
If there is anything you would like to know—or if you have experiences, suggestions, or feedback to share—please visit the comment sections on our official social channels or join the official Discord community. We will carefully read every message and do our best to address the topics you care about in future issues of Dev Talk.
We know the wait has not been easy. Many Captains still remember Port Op and the moment they first set sail from Broke Dockyard—and you have continued to place your trust and expectations in us. That is precisely why we do not want to rush our reunion.
Thank you to every Captain who has stayed with us, waited patiently, and continued to believe in us. Your attention and your voices will accompany us as we sail toward more distant seas.
We look forward to meeting you at gamescom. More than anything, we hope the day when we can see you every day—and return together to the Sea of Remnants—will arrive a little sooner.
