Patch 1.40 is now live. Be sure to be on the lookout for the new rich asteroids when exploring space. If you run into one, scan it using the revamped scanners menu from your helm, if you have sensors installed on your ship. You might find it contains a whole lot of precious resources.
The Extractor you are used to however, is not qualified to mine these huge pieces of rock. In order to gain access to the riches and wealth contained within, you will need to set up your own mining station on the spot, featuring the brand new Strip Miner.
This enormous new device uses a mining laser to cut parts of the asteroid which are sucked into the ship, where four arms extract resources out of it. You can choose what ore you want each arm to focus on and they can store up to 100000 units of ore. It might not be the fastest way of mining, but as long as there is at least one person in the system, the stripminer will go along doing its business so there is no need to wait around. Just get back to your ship and explore the galaxy while you leave the boring repetitive tasks to the machine. Come back later to a warm home filled with minerals you need to build that enormous warship you wanted for so long.
Speaking of exploring the galaxy, the new warp assist should make it easier than ever to get somewhere. Simply target the place you want to go (by default the T button), jump to warp and some handy arrows should tell you when to throttle up or down.
I’ll round up this post with a quick shout out to the new props introduced in this patch. This pack includes similarly themed wall, wall light, wall fan, and window you can use to give a fresh look to your ships.
