Time for another experimental update. We feel that these experimental updates have resulted in much more stable patches these past few weeks so we have decided to keep doing them.
With this update we are adding in the long awaited Engineering Terminal. With this device you will be able to change power groups on the fly as well as take control of individual room functions such as life support and door locks.
Additionally, the repair drone has been added and along with that engine and thruster damage. You can deploy a repair drone through a disposal unit. The drones require (refined) Iron in order to repair your hull and engines. You will also have to eject a crate of iron and tell the drones to pick it up. After which it will use those resources to repair your external devices. These drones can be controlled from a standard wall terminal. They can also be picked back up with a salvager.
Additionally, a new alien threat has awakened, the mysterious Skrill swarms have released their Skrill hunters. These aliens are fast and their objective is to slow you down. They have a special attack which will cause eggnite infestors to burrow into your ships and attach themselves onto your power generators and storage devices. They will drain power from them in order to slow you down so the rest of the slower Skrill can catch up and destroy your ship. To combat this infestation you can use your repair tool's laser cutter (right mouse button) to kill the creatures. The hunters will only spawn in systems with a skrill rating of 3500 and above.
We have also reworked the space flight target markers to make it easier to read when there are multiple markers in the distance which are stacked ontop of eachother. As well as a new marker compass which now constrains in a circle rather than to the edges of the screen to make it easier to see in which direction some markers are.
We hope you enjoy this experimental patch and please let us know what you think and any problems that you find. This helps us get rid of those pesky bugs before we push towards the live version.
As usual, the experimental patch notes can be found here:
Patch notes for experimental patch e0.1.32
To enable the beta branch, right click on Interstellar Rift in Steam, go to the beta tab, and select the "experimental IR beta patches" option.
We will have some test servers up and running to try out these new features until the patch goes live for everyone later this week.
Please keep in mind these will be wiped at the end of the beta period.
See you star side!
