We have a new batch of features and fixes ready for testing on the experimental branch!
First up are missiles, which can be crafted in an assembling machine and fired from the new missile launchers. Missile launchers can hold up to 4 missiles and can be used to set a target and launch missiles at your command. Alternatively, missiles can also be fired from the helm of the ship when the launchers are preloaded. Missiles are made from 40 brass, 30 steel and 70 nitrous oxide, and deal a total of a 1000 damage.
Missiles lock onto their target and will follow it until they hit the target, get destroyed while reaching it, or until their internal timer runs out and they self destruct. Missiles can also be found randomly on some stations, or bought at shops for around 6000 units per missile.
Also in this patch is a major rework of how the holotable displays systems, planets with stations around them and other spatial features. The holotable will now zoom in and out of selected points of interest, and will try to group objects together to reduce clutter.
Systems are now displayed with a relative scale, always showing the entire system by default and will zoom to specific groups and planets to reveal what more there might be located there. Galaxy mode has remained unchanged for now and ship mode is also mostly as you might remember it.
Our main goal with this rework was improving visibility and ease of use. When we opened up the galaxy a couple of months back the holotable became almost unusable due to the sheer increase in size of the area it needed to display. The system mode will now always show the sun in the center of the map, the planets are projected around it and the stations around the planets.
To make sure everything can be selected, ships neighbouring stations or other ships are displayed in a list like manner. To see the actual distance in relation to each other you can still use ship mode.
We’ve also updated the mailing system to notify you if any of your ships have been blown up, stored or otherwise removed from the galaxy. We are trying to track down any freak disappearances of ships that people have been reporting to happen. If you do receive mail that your ship has been removed when you are sure this should not have happened, please let us know.
Some of the things in this update may be tweaked over the coming days, especially some of the values related to missiles.
Thank you all for playing, we hope you’ll enjoy this new experimental update and we’ll see you starside!

To enable the beta branch, right click on Interstellar Rift in Steam, go to the beta tab, and select the "experimental IR beta patches" option.
We will have a test server up and running to try out these new features until the patch goes live for everyone later this week.
Please keep in mind the test server will be wiped at the end of the beta period.
