Hello, adventurers,
This week again, we picked some hot topics among the community, trying to answer your questions with this Adventure’s feedback

Ok, let’s take a look.

Q1. The last week’s feedback says you are going to develop a new game engine. I have many questions about the engine, but I will wait until you share more information. One thing that I want to know is When. Honestly, I have doubts about the schedule. I guess it takes a lot of time and effort to bring a new system/rule into the game, but a game engine will be even more difficult to create. When on earth will you finish with those big tasks?
- From the ToL Steam community
A1. I see you are worried about the new engine and the schedule. Actually ToL is developed with the ‘Oddone engine’ called Clay Engine. The new engine mentioned in the previous feedback is an advanced/improved version of the existing engine. As the improved Clay has advanced features and so many differences from the current one, you can say it’s “new”: we will call Clay Engine 2. In fact, the improved engine is 80% done, you will see the result when the new combat system is released.
As you already know, this is a huge change to rebuild the foundation of the game, and it takes time and effort. Now a question could arise: “why do you spend time on the engine, instead of adding new contents?” We could have added new contents, but we believe it is more important to set a firm foundation for a better game experience: if we stack everything on the sand, it would be a house of cards. Once the new engine is introduced, you will see the improved ToL with better graphics and UI. Later you will be able to play with a game controller and VR.

Q2. My guildies and I love the Christmas Trees, and we collected the saplings to plant them around the guild area for deco. It was beautiful, I love them, but when I came back to my base on the following day, I found they were all gone, no tree left at all. I have checked the login info of the guild members, but none of them ever logged in before I was in: it must be someone else. This reminds me of my Flower trees. I had the Flower trees around my base, but someone kept making off with them, which was annoying. Please protect the trees near/in the guild territory, so that we can decorate a boring town with the trees.
- From the official forum
A2. It is a good idea to protect the trees in/near your base. I will keep this suggestion for the deco design.
Currently our game art team is preparing the deco items for your base. They would have no functions, but to make your town look better. Garden furniture, flower bed, new fences, fountains, for example. You can craft them with the common ingredients; you would need to collect more ingredients for some luxurious deocs. I expect the deco items will be released with the new combat system.

Q3. I like the Christmas patch, but I really miss a gift/item just like the Halloween’s. And it’s bit embarrassing that I see the gift boxes under my Warden Tree, but can’t touch them! Please give us any items as a keepsake from the next update/event.
- From a fansite
A3. Sorry, we couldn’t send you a gift this Christmas. We have been busy with the development and had not much time to add a Christmas item. We will make a great event next time.

Q4. I want to talk about the combat system. Firstly, the armor. In the current system, the plate armor is the only one option. Of course, we have the cloth and the leather, but there is no need to choose them, because the plate armor is far better than the others, without cons. Secondly, the arrow tower. I read the patch note and saw the damage of the arrows was modified. Still it’s hard to defend with the towers when 3-4 players rush into my base. A Ballista doesn’t really help. We need an improvement.
- From the official forum and a fansite
A4. We are considering the first topic. As mentioned, we have no choice apart from the plate armor. We will improve the system, so that you can choose which to use. The plate has high DEF but decreases DEX, and the cloth has low DEF but gives you DEX bonus, for example.
Regarding the arrow tower, it has a history. Before in ToL, you can overwhelm your enemy with material superiority: you could defend your base with a number of the defensive weapons; but an exceeding number of the enemies could break through the defense; you build more towers to stop them, and more of them come to you, and so on. This system made the material superiority the best but only one tactic, which we did not want. After that, the defensive constructions have their own areas (mutually exclusive), thus the number of the towers you can build is limited.
The ideal siege warfare we want to make is a war that the players take the lead in, not the siege weapons. I believe the weapons and the constructions should just help the players in a battle; it will not happen that one arrow tower wipes out all the intruders. But, don’t worry, this does NOT mean the towers will be useless nor you will have to keep a night watch, waiting for incoming enemies. The faction system will be improved, so that you can avoid the stress.

Q5. The pic of the day: Alice’s choice
