Bone Island was the heart of an ancient civilization. A place where mortals once walked side by side with god, the earth spirit, Tz’akabaak. They worshipped him through offerings of bones, seed and jade. This was a place where faith was carved into stone, and the ground itself was shaped by divine hands. But faith turned into rebellion. Betrayal led to catastrophe. In a war waged between gods and mankind, Tz'akabaak was defeated, his body torn apart and buried beneath the very altars built in his name, The temples crumbled. His worshippers vanished and the creatures he had created were left behind, guardians of a fallen god, became predators of anyone foolish enough to trespass.
Nature reclaimed everything. Temples lie half-sunken, their walls tangled with roots, golden altars overtaken by moss. The jungle grew dense, suffocating, turning paths into mazes where statues and ruins vanish beneath all the vegetation. Caves yawn where the earth collapsed, and forgotten altars still mark the burial sites of the old god. This is no longer just an island, it’s a graveyard, a labyrinth, and a monument to a past the world chose to forget. This island now bears a different name, now it’s called Dreadbone.
This broken landscape isn’t just scenery it’s the puzzle itself. In Dreadbone, the land is both your obstacle and your tool. You’ll collapse cliffs to open new paths, raise the earth to reach hidden ruins, or block threats. Prepare yourself! mastering how to read and manipulate the terrain is the only way forward.
Now, for the first time in centuries, Tz’akabaak has seized his opportunity. Trapped deep beneath the island, sealed within his eternal prison, the fallen Spirit can do little… but it’s enough. With the fragments of power he still possesses, he must guide the explorer to his salvation, hoping he is the key to setting him free.
As you can see, the island is full of mysteries and surprises. Now that you know the backstory of Dreadbone, you know who ruled over this place, a forgotten power, broken but never truly gone. Its presence although weak still lingers beneath the roots, buried in the cracks, watching and waiting. Some things were never meant to be found.
