Updates 8-24-2026

NPCs now know if they are vitamin deficient, and they will take vitamins or eat foods that contain necessary vitamins to fix this if they have access to them. This system isn't perfect, and NPCs that are surrounded by tasty food that doesn't have vitamins might prioritize eating that over healthier options. This game takes place in America so that might not be a problem.

NPCs will make an educated guess about whether a food will make them nauseated or not, and will reject such items. Currently this means they will never eat a food with less than -5 (or -6 if they're a gourmand) enjotability. In the future they might become less discerning as they get closer to starvation, but I'll need to write some code to make them pace themselves in those cases.

NPCs now take more of their own traits into account when rating food and estimating its nutrition, so carnivores will rate meat more highly, and parasite-immune NPCs won't care about parasites.

Skater boy/girl (rollerblades) and skater boy girl (skateboard) are now roller boy/girl and skater boy/girl.

Juvenile delinquent is now just delinquent.

Delinquent now costs 1 point, and its single rank in archery skill has been replaced with throwing.

Extracted and updated the strings for translation, meaning translators can now work on the game's recently updated text.

• Извлекла и обновила строки для перевода, поэтому теперь переводчики могут работать с недавно обновлённым текстом игры.

• 已提取并更新待翻译的字符串，现在译者可以开始处理游戏中最近更新的文本。

Bleeding now looks like a bloody wound on the creature, rather than a speech bubble with blood drops in it. This helps clear up important icon real estate and also looks a bit more immersive. Currently this is always red, in the near future I'll update it so that it matches the color of the creature's blood.

The onfire effect now has 3 different sprites so you can tell at a glance what intensity it's at.

Added sprites for the crab legs and giant pincer mutations.

Adjusted the way long tail looks to make it less bad.

Redid the sprites for a number of items. This includes all spears and pikes, as well as the long pole and spear shaft. The soaking versions of these items have an obvious sheen on them that goes away when they're done, so you can just eyeball it without having to actually click on it to see if it's ready.

Redid several tools and glass items, making them more appropriately scaled so that a screwdriver on the ground isn't the size of a broadsword. The idea is to make it so that glass items are transparent and do not have black outlines. Obviously there are a lot of items, but we'll get there.

Adjusted some of the mutation ordering so that things like sores aren't sitting on top of fur, and things like albino aren't sitting under feathers.

Added materials for cotton fluff and synthetic fluff, applying cotton fluff to the balls. Added a synthetic fluff item. This is polyester batting or memory foam or any kind of similar stuff. Added it to winter coat, ski jacket, and army winter coat, as well as most car seats, sofas, mattresses, armchairs, and more.

Changed mattresses, car seats, etc. to be made of synthetic fabric. Regular cloth isn't used for these things because synthetics are far more durable and absorbent.

Updated some outdated recipes and bash results related to above.

Fixed some various clothing bugs.

Added a few plastic masks.

Edited a few plushies and their weighting in the loot table.

Added arctic fox, gray fox, and tanuki plushies.

Added big bags of synthetic fluff to the tailoring fabric loot pool.

Renamed army jacket to military parka and updated its general properties to very roughly match the N-3B parka. It is not that exact one, it's just that general type of coat.

The various meat items (scraps of this, chunks of that) were set up years ago in a way that was daisy-chaining json data across dozens of items. This was probably an attempt to simplify things, but it had the opposite effect. Not only did it make it impossible to read the json files, daisy-chaining in this manner an unsafe method that silently loses a lot of information without generating error reports. This meant that certain types of meat had really wonky stats which were never intended, especially when used for crafting. I spent a good deal of time ripping most of this out and just manually defining meat data. Additionally a lot of items were named or described strangely, and that had to be cleaned up. Things are now more straightforward and consistent, though I am certain some ancient errors remain.

A bug popped up recently that made it impossible to shoot lights out in labs. This has been fixed.

The lug wrench was using an outdated description, it has been given a new one.

Edited tiles for bottle, bowl, jars, pipe, shards, caltrops to give them proper transparency and color and ensure their visibility.

@aattss submitted a number of fixes for how nausea is applied when eating food with negative enjoyment. These were minor math errors that amounted to the system not quite working as intended, and foods which were not that gross had an outsized chance to make you nauseated. Basically this means that things that aren't super gross should be a lot safer to eat, and strength's effect on resisting this is now calculated correctly.

@Mark added overmap tiles for the rural gas station, anthill, swamp shack, survivor bunker.

@Mark submitted fixes to the bird wing mutation overlays for both male and female characters.

@Necula added sprites for the workshop toolbox, toolbox, lug wrench, adjustable wrench, and small adjustable wrench.

@Necula added sprites for the socket screwdriver set, socket wrench set, large tent kit, damaged large tent kit, damaged tent kit, and wielded sprites for the tent kit and large tent kit.

@Federkiel added sprites for the swollen tearjerker and its corpse, the blood sacrifice, the stun gun, wooden crutch, rehydrated eggs, reversi set, niter, and roman colosseum jigsaw puzzle, as well as wielded sprites for both types of crutches and the stun gun.
