Today, we’re diving into the most challenging part of Back of Beyond—the Faith Trial System and the awe-inspiring Dark God characters.
Faith Trials: The Key to Survival
Every five rounds, you’ll face a Faith Trial—a test from the dark gods. If your faith falls short, the town meets its doom. We’ve designed gods of varying difficulty, from the low-tier “Phantom” (faith requirement: 30) to the high-tier “Mist Sovereign” (faith requirement: 80). Higher-tier gods come with unique abilities, like disabling buildings or doubling replacement costs. Players must strategically build faith within limited turns, pairing followers with buildings, making every challenge tense and thrilling.
Visual Design of the Dark Gods
The art style for the dark gods leans into the eerie and mysterious, with unsettling visuals. We aim for these designs to amplify the strange atmosphere of Mist Town.
In our next development log, we will introduce an important character in "Back of Beyond" - the guide cat Lucy. She is not only the guide for the new town mayor, but also a crucial bridge connecting players to the mysterious veil of Mist Town. Stay tuned!
