Hey! White text with a black outline — the single most classic caption look in existence, seen on every TV and every video, everywhere, always. Turns out you couldn't actually make it in LiveCap's settings. You told us. You were right. So we rebuilt the entire outline system out of sheer spite.
We also fixed a v3.1.0 bug where file transcription produced empty subtitles. Sorry about that one.
🆕 Features
✒ Caption outlines, rebuilt from scratch
- Any text color × any outline color — white + black, your favorite color + black, whatever you like. Width goes 0-10px, and translated / original lines configure independently
- One setting row: "Outline: width + color" — remember staring at "inner outline" and "outer outline" wondering which one to touch? That two-tier setup is gone. No more staring
- Thick outlines don't fall apart anymore — widening the outline used to slice the tops and bottoms clean off your glyphs. New rendering method: smooth all the way up to 10px
- The preview shows outlines now — the old "outlines are only visible in OBS" disclaimer was less a disclaimer, more a confession. It's gone. You can now check the outline color and width right in Settings before it ever hits OBS
Your previous inner-outline settings carry over automatically. If you were an outer-outline person, please review the outline width and color after updating.
🔧 Changes & Fixes
- [Important] Fixed file transcription producing empty subtitles — in v3.1.0, transcribing a video/audio file would announce "Done!" and hand you an empty subtitle file. It was not, in fact, done. Root cause found, fixed, and regression-tested so it stays fixed. Huge thanks to everyone who reported it
- File transcription no longer calls a total wipeout a success — when every recognition attempt for a file failed, LiveCap could still declare "Done!" and hand you an empty subtitle file. A total wipeout is not a success, so it is now reported as a failure. (If only some segments fail, the rest still produce subtitles, as before)
- Settings that don't apply mid-run can no longer be changed mid-run — engine, microphone and other pipeline settings are actually locked in the moment you press start; changing them mid-run quietly did nothing until the next start. Letting you change a setting that isn't listening is a trap, so they now lock while running, with a note that stopping unlocks them. Caption style and output settings still apply instantly, as always
- The confidence filter's test screen now survives repeated words — saying the same word twice in a row during a test could leave the second one uncounted. The tally is accurate now, so it's a number you can actually tune against
- Fixed inverted caption opacity — with lowered text opacity, older captions could render bolder than newer ones, in defiance of the arrow of time. Time now flows in the correct direction
- Style changes now apply to captions already on screen — toggle "show original" or change the display duration, and the captions currently on screen update on the spot. No waiting for the next utterance
- Fixed the caption background silently vanishing when the background color setting held an unexpected value — if it's going to disappear, it should at least say something. So now it just doesn't disappear
