v3.0.0 Release Notes
livecap-gui got a complete rewrite
Sorry it's been a while since v2.1.0 (really, sorry).
v3.0.0 is not a small bump on top of v2.1.0 — we rewrote the whole thing. Line by line.
"Surely you're exaggerating," you might say. We are not.
The GUI framework, the audio pipeline, the engine integration, the settings system, even where files live on disk — all different now.
Old config files do not carry over. Apologies. A setup wizard pops up on first launch and walks you through it (about 30 seconds, probably).
Recognition accuracy: way better
This is the part we spent the most time on.
- Optimized VAD (Voice Activity Detection) — "it cut me off mid-sentence" and "weird segment boundaries" should be much rarer now.
- Audio pipeline rewritten end-to-end — there were some Not Great Things happening between your microphone and the engine. We stopped doing them.
- Noise gate auto-calibrates — it measures your room's ambient noise and picks a threshold for you. You just sit there in silence for 5 seconds. That's the whole job.
- ASR engine integration rewritten — Whisper / WhisperS2T / Parakeet / ReazonSpeech, each rewired to play to its strengths.
Net result: you will hear the difference. Long streaming sessions also shouldn't fall over on their own anymore. Probably.
New UI
- Main window is now just two tabs: Stream and File. Simple is nice.
- Microphone and translation status live in the status bar, one click away.
- First-launch setup wizard — walks you through UI language, microphone, noise gate, and engine choices. It's friendly. We promise.
- Japanese / English localization — switching UI language no longer requires a restart (quietly a big deal).
Outputs
OBS Browser Source and VRChat OSC are both rewritten from scratch.
The Settings UI has a "Test Connection" button. It does what it says.
File transcription
Drop in an audio or video file and we'll transcribe it.
Right-click the result for copy and re-translate.
Heads up
- No settings compatibility with v2.x (apologies again).
- Some ASR engines download GB-sized models on first run. Maybe don't do this on mobile data.
- Please do not run `large-v3` without a GPU. Please. Pick Whisper Small or smaller.
"Actually, I'd like to go back to the previous version"
If v3.0.0 isn't for you, you can roll back to v2.1.0.1 via Steam's beta branch feature.
- Right-click livecap-gui in your Steam library → Properties
- Open the Betas tab
- Under "Beta Participation," select v2.1.0.1
- Steam will start downloading v2.1.0.1 automatically
If you'd like us to keep a specific version available, or roll back just one feature, drop a note on the official Discord. We'll do what we can.
If something breaks
Questions, bug reports, "it doesn't work," "this isn't what I expected" — all welcome on the official Discord.
