The Counter Spell Classic creation tools are pretty daunting. It’s obvious when looking at our Steam workshop that only a few players actually end up making maps. This is a shame and it’s something that we really want to change.
When I first got the tools into the hands of Hugin it became very clear from the perspective of someone who’s used to working with all manner of creation tools that ours are just not accessible or powerful enough. We’ve since split build mode (now called the “Realm Editor”) into two modes: The classic “Block” mode and a new 3rd person “Design” mode. In design mode you can now paint large areas using custom brushes. Walls, fences and so on can easily be drawn onto the landscape. Speaking of landscapes, we’ve completely revamped the terrain system so that it now works on the same principle. You simply paint out cliffs, ravines and forests with fully customizable brushes.
Besides that we’re also working on a much more user-friendly UI for the editor, including tool-tips and visual guides, to make sure that anyone can just jump in and throw together their first map in no time. We can’t wait to see what everyone will create!
For this weekly post we increased the Artstuff budget so over to Hugin and an in-depth look at what’s going on over there:
Thanks again Hugin.
Well, let’s see if we got any scoops lined up from our field reporter:
Just how big is that thing?!
