Skyline — FAQ 1st EDITION
This FAQ answers most common questions.
It will be released in two languages — English and Russian.
All other questions can be asked under this FAQ and will be included in the second edition.
For better communication, questions are accepted only in English or Russian (answers will be provided in the same language, and translated in the next edition).
Q: What is Skyline?
A: It’s a clicker game — not with the most advanced gameplay, but similar to many clickers it features item drops, as well as Steam features such as Workshop, text chat, and voice chat.
We’ve been working on improving the gameplay, and that will come in version 3.0.
Q: When will version 3.0 be released?
A: I won’t give exact or even approximate dates — it’s a huge amount of work, practically a new game.
Q: What is the purpose of the auto-clicker?
A: We expected people to use third-party clicker programs, so we decided to add that feature ourselves — but raised the end goal to 1000 prestiges.
Q: What happens after reaching 1000 prestiges?
A: For now, nothing — it’s a closed section with credits, but it will be expanded in version 3.0.
Q: Why do auto-clickers miss some secrets?
A: Many things in the game are tied to random events triggered by manual clicks — auto-clicking skips those.
Q: What does “0/11” in the bottom-left corner mean?
A: That’s the number of collected random actions required to unlock a small easter egg / placeholder. We’ll probably rework this part in version 3.0 and tie it to future updates.
Q: How does the player’s choice affect gameplay?
A: This game is a collection of many small elements, and the way you play it changes how it feels and how it’s perceived.
Q: What’s the purpose of Skyline as a game?
A: The base is a clicker, but it can be extended with almost anything. It’s my first project of this scale, so with every update I keep adding new stuff, drifting further from the core idea. In the future, I might add more mini-activities, with the clicker serving just as an income source for those.
Q: Can you explain the in-game economy?
A: Sure. Currently there are about 90 unique items, each with its own drop chance. They’re all part of the game’s economy. Items drop every 6 hours, simply click on the car 100 times or simply exit the game.
Q: How do you decide what to add? Some items don’t even fit the theme.
A: Simple — the first items were made for the game, the rest were just added for fun. Why not?
Q: Will there be exclusive or collectible items?
A: Planned for the future.
Q: What is the purpose of the Workshop?
A: It’s a place for ideas — possibly for adding community-made items or concepts into the game.
Q: How do I upload content to the Workshop?
A: The interface is confusing, but it’s there.
Go to Settings → Online → click the big black button twice, and you’ll see the Workshop UI.
Top line — title
Second line — description
Third line — path to the content folder (not an archive) Then click the bottom black button — and your work is uploaded publicly.
Q: Why so complicated?
A: I didn’t think anyone would actually go there. But if someone wants to — go ahead.
Q: How do text and voice chat work?
A: Technically — it’s hard. In-game, the chat button is in the bottom right corner of the main menu, or click the car icon. There’s also a chat button in Settings, and in the “Online” section — same car icon. That’s your lobby.
Q: Who can I talk to there?
A: In theory — up to 250 players who also reached this stage. Voice chat supports 10 players, but you must click the mic icon next to the text chat.
If it doesn’t connect the first time — click the mic twice more.
Q: What are the circles in the voice chat?
A: The bottom one shows outgoing data, the top one — incoming, side ones — connection status. Lower numbers are bytes sent, upper ones — bytes received.
Q: Back to items — what are the drop chances, and which are the rarest?
A: I don’t know. I really don’t.
Q: Where can I view all items?
A: Either on the Steam Market, or in-game on the item page — there’s a kind of catalog there.
Q: How often are new items added?
A: Whenever new ideas appear.
Q: Why does your game have VAC anti-cheat enabled?
A: It doesn’t really do anything — it just turns on with one toggle. But it adds a funny line on the Steam page.
Some people get scared off by it — not sure why.
Q: In one screenshot, someone’s balance went negative — why, and is it fixed?
A: Yeah, that happens. We hit the int limit (~2.1 billion), but that’s enough for a full playthrough.
It’s partially fixed now — if the balance goes negative, a prestige is automatically purchased.
In version 3.0, the limit will stay, but you’ll never reach those numbers anyway.
Q: Why do I get 39 achievements immediately upon owning the game?
A: I don’t know — it’s a Steam bug.
The code hasn’t even run yet, and achievements are already unlocked. Fine by me.
Q: How to get the remaining 3 achievements?
A: Honestly — you can’t. There are workarounds, but I won’t say how.
Q: What is the input field in Settings for, and what does it do?
A: I won’t say what to enter — each player has their own code.
Think about what it might be.
It doubles your prestige gain — 2 instead of 1, making the game twice as fast.
Q: What’s the actual goal of the game — is there an ending?
A: There’s no real ending. For me, it’s a personal space on Steam and a playground for programming experiments.
It’s more of an art-house application that anyone can touch and experience.
Q: Why is it called Skyline, and why is everything centered around a car?
A: It just sounds cool. I like it.
