STARLOGS (PROGRESSION 2.0) PREVIEW
Greetings prospectors!
On February 26, you’ll see some changes come to Wildgate’s Update 1.4: new perks, micro POIs, and a new and improved progression system, fated by the cosmos itself: Starlogs.
STARLOGS
In the last Dev Update, we shared why we were reworking progression — it was to make sure players have a clear idea of what they are working toward. After the update is live, you’ll be able to see how many rewards you’ve claimed so far and how many are still remaining for each track.
WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR OLD PROGRESS?
Starlogs will replace several older progression systems, and everything you’ve already earned will remain.
So if you’ve unlocked items through previous systems, you’ll keep them. Veteran players may notice that many Starlog pages are already partially, or fully, completed when they log in.
NEW PERKS SYSTEM
With update 1.4 we’re introducing perks, a way for players to make micro adjustments to your prospector. Once the update is live, you’ll have a base amount of perks ready to go, with the rest to be unlocked via Starlogs, offering an endless number of combinations that’ll fit your playstyle. Here’s a sampler of what you can expect:
Boarder: +5% speed in space
Defender: +10% armor while on your own ship
Efficient Resourcing: Ship gains +1 resource when fuel or ice are deposited
Mad Bomber: Fly 100% faster in space when carrying a bomb trap
Salvager: Salvage Tier 1 and 2 devices to get ice, fuel, or ammo
There’s a perk for each prospector too – you’ll see the full list of perks in our patch notes next week.
WEAPONS, EQUIPMENT & SANDBOX ADDITIONS
Allowing even more playstyle experimentation, you’ll be able to unlock new weapons and equipment through Starlogs:
Three New Weapons
Foam Gun: A sprayer that puts out fires and sprays a cone of foam that damages and slows enemies
Rocket Launcher: Anti-personnel rockets that are slow moving but do splash damage to nearby targets and high damage on a direct hit.
Hand Cannon: A powerful sidearm that is accurate at range (with a small amount of recoil) and can do 2x damage on critical hits
New Equipment
Repulsor: Knocks back and damages all enemies close to you
Plasma Grenade: Sticks to a target and does area damage after a delay
These additions are designed to slot naturally into existing modes while opening up new tactical (and chaotic) possibilities.
New Ship: Battle Scout We’re adding a new ship to the Reach: the Battle Scout.
The Battle Scout launches with 100 health and a fast turning speed, giving crews a nimble option built for agility and precision maneuvering. While it doesn’t currently have additional ship speed bonuses, we’re experimenting with ideas in this space and will continue iterating based on testing and feedback.
In addition to its handling profile, the Battle Scout now features prospector catapults on either side of the ship. This opens up new tactical possibilities, from aggressive boarding plays to rapid repositioning during fights.
MICRO POIS
Micro POIs will spawn in Treasure Hunt and Explore mode. These compact points of interest are designed to create more opportunities for discovery, skirmishes, and quick tactical decisions during your runs... and some sweet, sweet loot.
A WORD FROM MOONSHOT
From the earliest days of building Wildgate, we wanted to keep a variety of playstyles at the forefront of your experience. Allowing players to build out kits that fit their sensibilities while also making sure that loadout doesn’t become a labyrinth of options that get in the way of jumping into a game. To us, Starlogs feels like a natural next step from our previous progression systems that allows you to feel rewarded while you play.
We hope you agree — and if you have questions or feedback, please join us on our official Discord to talk shop.
