I think few independent game developers can talk about how they conceived when making games.
First of all, I am a programmer, responsible for almost all the content in the game.
At the beginning, I wanted to make a corridor puzzle game.
In ancient Chinese traditional culture, there is a saying of "Eighteen Layers of Hell", so the name "Eighteen Layers" was first named, but it felt empty, "Eighteen Layers of What?"
Later, it turned out that there were many abandoned buildings near where I lived that had been used many years ago.

I went in and walked around, and then went home and bought a set of cement scenes in the Unreal Engine store.
Finally, the game was named "Eighteen Floors".
The original design was that the player kept going downstairs, and it was considered a success when he reached the ground floor.
But there are two problems in doing this:
1. How to explain the setting of the floor number becoming smaller when going upstairs?
2. Because the staircase model is single-sided, the problem of the penetration of each staircase must be dealt with.

After that, the stairs were removed and turned into a flat-floor room.
The human dubbing was done by a good friend. Her hobby is dubbing, and my needs are rather strange, so I asked her to help with the dubbing.
All sounds are played randomly and in a loop.
The background noise is actually the noise of the power adapter of the electric tricycle.
The noises of walking and flashlight are all recorded, and some noises of welding are not used.

Some strange things in the game need to find a reason to make them reasonable.
Finally, I thought that all this was done by the ghost, but if it was a ghost, it actually couldn't explain some unreasonable phenomena.
Then add an identity to the ghost, "hacker". Since it is a hacker, you can use some programmers' usual methods, "command line".
A DOS-like system was designed for the game. With this system, all rooms in 20-0 can be connected.
Because it was the hacker who trapped the player, when designing:
Computer shutdown: Haha, how could the hacker allow you to shut down the computer, just restart the computer and start over.
Program backdoor: It's normal for programmers to leave a backdoor. But the backdoor will be guessed one day, so I'll just say directly that the game has a backdoor.
From a technical point of view, the entire game space actually only includes three groups of rooms.
A group of rooms includes: a main room with 6 windows and a corridor room with two lights.
The game adopts the maximum reuse rule. When the player opens (clicks the mouse) the door of a new room, a group of rooms will be created (there are four groups of rooms in the scene at this time); at the moment the door is closed (playing sound), check whether there is an abnormality in the current room to decide whether to refresh the room number and determine which room should be deleted.
Since the location base point of room creation depends on the room where the player is, the player's position is determined by the player from beginning to end.
