The ApocaShift Open Playtest is Live!
The gates are open.
If you've been watching the game, wishlisting it, or just stumbled across the Steam page, you can now download and play ApocaShift for yourself. No invite needed.
ApocaShift has been in development for a couple of years now, built system by system by a solo developer, and it's finally at the point where I'm ready to put it in front of a much larger group of players.
Quick note: This is a playtest build, not a finished game. Expect bugs, jank, missing animations, unfinished content, balance issues, and things occasionally breaking in weird ways. That's exactly what this playtest is for.
WHAT IS APOCASHIFT?
ApocaShift is a top-down post-apocalyptic survival game focused on scavenging, combat, crafting, progression, and building up a home base.
Go out into the wasteland, gather what you can, survive whatever is waiting for you, and bring your haul back home to prepare for the next run.
SURVIVAL AND YOUR HOME BASE
Hunger, thirst, health, stamina, injuries, and survival systems to manage
Bandages, stims, medical supplies, and other ways to keep yourself alive
Build and expand your home base using materials scavenged from the world
Quests, NPCs, dialogue, and a full quest journal
A tech tree for researching new equipment and buildables
Character progression with skills and perks
CRAFTING AND GEAR
Craft weapons, medical supplies, ammunition, survival gear, and base upgrades
Melee weapons including machetes, tire irons, hatchets, and more
Firearms ranging from pistols and shotguns to rifles and heavier weapons

WEATHER THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS
Weather has received a major overhaul for this playtest.
A full four-season cycle with changing temperatures
Rain, snow, and volumetric fog
Snow that gradually accumulates and melts depending on temperature
A buildable Weather Radio with a seven-day forecast
Daily high and low temperatures
Warnings for severe weather such as hard freezes and blizzards
Weather conditions that transition naturally over time
THE WORLD ISN'T EMPTY
Zombies, mutants, scavs, and armed enemies with different behaviors
Large mutants and special infected including spitters
Horde systems designed to support huge numbers of zombies
Cars and motorcycles to get around the wasteland
Points of interest packed with loot, enemies, and places to explore
Voiced NPC dialogue and quests
THIS IS A PLAYTEST
This build is still early.
You WILL find bugs.
Some animations are missing. Some systems are rough. Some balance numbers will probably be completely wrong. You may also find unfinished areas or content that is clearly waiting for another pass.
That's okay.
The entire reason for this playtest is to find those problems now and make ApocaShift better before release.
If something breaks, looks strange, feels unfair, or simply isn't fun, please tell me.
There is a feedback system built directly into the game, and I read every report.
JOIN THE COMMUNITY
The best place to report bugs, share screenshots, give feedback, read patch notes, or just follow development is the ApocaShift Discord:
Thank you for being here this early and helping test something I've spent the last few years building.
Grab whatever weapon you can find, head into the wasteland, and see how long you survive.
The ApocaShift Open Playtest is live now.
