[Extra Beta] 2015.06.21: Legacy Saving

[Edit: I've uploaded 2015.06.21b to address a few bugs and add a new reward type to pillaging (random free minion). I'll fold the patch notes into the next update announcement.]

Tonight's update includes several improvements upon the new mechanics introduced in last night's beta release, most notably saving. Anyone can opt into this beta build from the game's Properties in your Steam Library (check out the "Betas" tab). With a little more feedback and polish, I will probably push this out to everyone else in the next couple of days.

Many people have requested the ability to save their game and pick it back up later, but the game was always designed more as a single-session, almost roguelike-inspired premise, where saving somewhat undermines the experience, and the aim has been to push toward shorter, escalating games. However, your Legacy progress is now saved immediately after you lock stuff in, allowing you to quit a game at any point and continue with your Legacy stuff the next time you start the game up. It's not full-session saving, but it does allow you to get a leg up in subsequent sittings.

I'm still looking for more feedback on the features released last night (plots, pillaging, and legacies), and now I also need feedback from players with somewhat slower machines: this update saves more often than in the past (albeit, at intelligent moments), and I need to be certain that this isn't a distracting performance hit. I don't see any delay when my PC saves, but the original alpha saved *very* frequently, and some players reported noticeable hiccups; I don't want to fall back into that.

This also means that completed prophecies now save immediately upon completion, though, so you will no longer lose those if your game closes unexpectedly. ːtotbaconː

Changelog

Additions:

  • Legacy saving
  • Legacies spent/earned UI

Changes:

  • Game saves every time you complete a prophecy
  • Minions returning from pillaging should now be given elevator priority
  • Surface can now be highlighted on the minimap
  • Surface now called "Safe Surface" (appears in only a couple locations)

Fixes:

  • No pillaging before kicking off the first wave
  • "Impossible" floor combinations from Legacied floors would ruin floor restriction determination
  • Can't use items on pillaging champs (because they can't deploy to the Surface)
  • Minions sent pillaging while riding the left elevator could become stuck, as they tried to make the elevator go to the surface
  • Floor frames and foregrounds were overlapping other floors (due to some recent rendering changes)
  • Yellow minimap frame didn't scale evenly as the view scrolled
  • Some minimap highlights were cut off
