Hey all! Wanted to give a little preview of the Spell Casting Update coming this fall. Also wanted to communicate that I will be taking a brief vacation for the first 3 weeks of August to take my wife on a Honeymoon! I apologize in advance if I am not responding to comments as frequently or pushing patches as often as I have been this summer, but rest assured I'm not abandoning the game, just need to take a few weeks off. As for what the future holds...
Spell Casting Plan
The current plan for the spell casting update is to allow the player to select 4 spells to take with you during the campaign. Every hero has one signature spell, with the other 3 will initially be made up of weaker, starter spells. Those other 3 spells will be able to be swapped out with any other unique hero spell that is unlocked.
Starter Spells
There will be a handful of starter spells that do small amounts of direct damage or buff leadership and stuff like that. They won't be as powerful as hero spells and will be more placeholder until stronger hero spells are unlocked
Unlocking Spells
Completing a Godking campaign on a hero unlocks their spell, making it available to any hero on any future run.
16 Heroes. 16 Signature Spells.
I wanted each spell to be somewhat unique and have minimal overlap, while any of these may change based on testing and feedback, here is the initial plan:
IRON LEGION
Rally the Banners - Edric Valeward
Friendly squads in the area regain morale for 30 seconds.
Hunter's Mark - Rhydan Greythorne
Marks one enemy squad. Your entire army deals +50% damage to it for 12 seconds.
GRUNTKIN
Snare Trap - Boblin the Goblin King
Places a hidden trap. The first enemy to enter takes 180 damage and is knocked back. Expires after 25 seconds if untriggered.
Rampage - Kragmuk Gorethirster
Friendly squads in the area gain +25 weapon strength and +15 melee attack for 18 seconds.
RAVEN HOST
Shieldwall - Bjorn Ironskull
Target friendly squad cannot be knocked back and moves at half speed for 15 seconds.
Cyclone - Freyja Stormweaver
Knocks an enemy squad back with heavy force, breaking its formation and cancelling any charge. Deals minor damage.
TAELINDOR FOREST
Starstep - Iltharion Starpire
Teleports your selected squad to the target point.
Healing Grove - Serendael of Nytherial
Friendly units in the area recover 15 health per second for 12 seconds.
SANGUINE COURT
Raise Dead - Sister Morvayne
Summons a squad of undead skellys
Dread - Lord Draven Bloodreaver
Enemy squads in the area lose morale for 20 seconds.
SAKURA DYNASTY
Iaijutsu Flash - Oda Nobukage
Deals 275 armour-ignoring damage to one enemy squad.
Smokescreen - Tokugawa Harunobu
Enemy units in the area lose 30 accuracy for 15 seconds.
DEEPSTONE HOLD
Sunder - Hrothgar Goblinslayer
Strips armor damage reduction from all enemies in the area for 15 seconds.
Artillery Bombardment - Bertha Barrelstorm
Deals 160 damage to all enemies in a wide area.
DRAKOSAUR BROOD
Snare Web - Skrix the Swarmcaller
Enemy units in the area are slowed for 12 seconds.
Venomous Bite - Valthrex Primeclaw
Target enemy squad takes x damage per second for 8 seconds.
Values are in tuning and may will change before release. I've got most of the code done, just need to add vfx and sfx for them and set up some better ui. There will also be mage units coming with this update as promised but still working on those. Also planning on doubling achievements in the game to 50 and reworking difficulty as requested by the community.
v 1.8.1 Bug Fixes and QoL improvements added today!
Fixed the rival commander in the tavern sometimes appearing broken or invisible after returning from a battle.
Fixed the tavern occasionally showing the wrong rival commander after starting a new campaign. Fixed a rare hang when a commander model failed to load, which could leave the tavern half empty.
Fixed issue with being unable to reposition units due to some of them dying mid position silently causing the logic to fail for the rest of battle
Fixed pausing while leaving a battle leading to broken game state
Recolored Gear to follow the gray green purple color scheme of units instead of green blue purple. Also updated and redid the tooltip to use the normal one as it was a little small and hard to read and sorted by rarity in collections now
Added max health to unit recruit cards
