Howdy Folks!
I've made solid progress on the new upgrade system since our last check-in. I’m excited to share these developments with you now.
Upgrades
I've had a lot of requests for an upgrade system since the release of PACK. It wasn't something I originally planned for the game, but I do agree with having a sense of progression, aside from cleaning the levels, is an important gameplay experience. I know I certainly like that type of progression.
The updated game menu will display your upgrades alongside detailed level info, including remaining repairs and a more detailed breakdown of your cleaning progression.
Upgrade Categories
The upgrade system I've developed is broken into several upgrade categories where each category can be upgraded multiple times. Upgrade categories include Movement Speed, Washer Speed, Washer Area, Vacuum Capacity, Repair Speed and Flashlight. Repair speed doesn't currently make sense, but in the next update I'll be adding a hold interaction for repairing objects. Each upgrade will improve the given attribute by a certain percentage.
Purchasing Upgrades
Any surplus resources gathered from repairs can now be reinvested into upgrades. Consequently, your remaining materials will carry over between levels rather than resetting.
Multiplayer
In multiplayer sessions, all players share the host's resources and upgrades. While guest players can still recycle, generate materials, and purchase enhancements, these contributions and rewards will not carry over to their individual single-player progress.
The upgrade system will be coming to the experimental branch first as there will be a lot of tweaking needed to ensure proper balance of upgrade bonuses and costs.
What do you think of the upgrade categories? What other upgrade categories would you like to see?
New Maps
Two additional maps are also in development. These new maps will offer some fresh new cleaning locations and start to take the story in a new direction. Below is a work in progress screenshot of one of the coming maps.
Roadmap
I’m definitely running behind my original roadmap, and I know many of you were expecting the new maps and upgrades around now. Between some personal hurdles and the having to search for part-time work, things have taken longer than planned, but work is still very much underway. I can't give you a solid date just yet, but I’m making progress and will keep you posted as I get closer.
