Despite the many societal changes following the Great Passive Aggression, slavery is still widely practised in the realms below. The prosperity of the lavish underground capital city of Manzaberranzan strongly depends on the constant toiling of many pairs of chained hands. Nevertheless, the acquisition and the treatment of slaves are strictly regulated in accordance with the creed of the Goddess. Most significantly, slaves are not to be treated as expendable property, but as an important part of her perfect society, no matter how marginal their role may be.
Within the sacred walls of the Polis of Pleasure, only female slaves may be sold and bought. Proximity to the dark elf high society guarantees them access to wealth and prosperity often beyond the wildest dreams of most free folk. When approaching old age, most are freed and granted enough wealth to live easily the rest of their days in the realms above. That being said, their position remains one of subservience and dark elves will always regard them at best as a beloved pet.
All slaves are expected, but never forced, to perform sexual service for their mistresses. It is customary for a young dark elf to receive a maid as a present once her first sexual urges start to manifest. Satisfying the whims of a dark elf maid is generally considered beneath her older sister or mother, hence the need for personal sex-slaves.
A young noble will need a personal servant to take care of her daily needs, keep her bed warm, eat her up before sleep and upon waking. Full-fledged priestesses are likely to have at the ready no less than two sex slaves at every moment of the cycle, as their sexual appetite may not leave enough time to seek out a peer partner. Finally, a Matron would find it difficult going through her many duties without spending several hours in her temple harem, which is normally several dozen strong.
While fornicating with one’s servant is widely practised and even encouraged, stronger bonds are much less common. A deep relationship with a slave would be seen as problematic and unorthodox, something akin to romance with a pet or a particularly affectionate toy. And yet this does happen, and whatever beauty can be found in that passion which overcomes the barriers of society and even of mortality, is seldom recognised and never celebrated.
